Commercial Description:
The Summer Ales of England inspire our newest seasonal beer, Surfer's Summer Ale. With a brilliant gold color, and a fruity, tangerine-like aroma from the English First Gold hops, Surfer's Summer Ale is a refreshing, tasty treat. A sweet, toasted malt flavor comes from the English Maris Otter malt, and combines with bread-like wheat character to give this beer a full-bodied, rounded malt aspect. Finishing smooth and clean, Surfer's Summer Ale exhibits a wonderful balance of character.

On tap as part of the sampler tray at the Brewery. Pretty simple, but in a summer ale you’re really only looking for refreshment. With that expectation I was satisfied. A very light sweetness and a hint of citrus. Good, clean and definitely refreshing.

This orange ale poured with a decent white head. There is a decent but nondescript malt base with some carbonated hoppiness.

OBF, tap... Poured hazy yellow/orange with a white head. Aroma of spicy esters and yeast strains with some bananas. I was really into this golden, as much as I’d hate to admit it. Had pretty consistent banana flavors with sweet, caramel malt and some hops for an edge. Very similar to a wheat beer.

OBF 08 I wish I had that much to say about it. Looks beautiful but otherwise no excelling characteristics. Definitely session.

On tap at Pelican Brew Pub in Pacific City, OR--Poured a light hazy copper body with a small white head. Nose of roasted, burnt crisp malts. Mild spicy UK hops profile. Clean and easy drinking, but not too eventful. Perhaps the worst Pelican beer yet, but this doesn’t mean much because most of their beers rock.

Clear golden body. Smooth, malt-accented (bread, maybe a hint of dough) with hints of minty hops. Kind of a bland knock-’em-out brew.

It was okay. I’m glad I got their IPA afterwards otherwise I would have thought they didn’t know what they were doing. They do, but this one is boring.
