Poured black with a creamy brown head. Aroma of hoppy roasted chocolate, pretty nice. Taste is bitter roasted coffee and chocolate, but seems somewhat thin. Perhaps a tad past its prime. I had this once or twice (such as at GABF) before finally rating it with this bomber, ’cause...well...I have never seen this as the best Foreign Stout in the world. It’s a pretty nice beer, sure, but...I just kept thinking I was having ho-hum samples, but they’ve been fairly consistent. 3.5 is the best sample I’ve had, so I’ll be generous with my official score and use that one. jtw (944), farmington, Michigan, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 11, 2005 Bomber. Pours beautiful and dark with a frothy tan head. Aroma could have been a little stronger, but was very smooth (can an aroma be smooth??) with a nice combination of chocolate, coffee and a few dark fruits. Very silky and smooth in the mouth. It starts off a little roasty with a bit of a kick, but slides down oh so smooth. Nice and complex with the aforementioned coffee and semisweet chocolate but also a nice helping of vanilla, dark fruits and a little nuttiness. This is another great one from this great brewery. Pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small tan head. Vanilla and dark chocolate up front. Finishes moderately roasty with roasted malt and coffee. Ungstrup (15430), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Nov 28, 2005 A pitch black beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet with lots of chocolate and coffee. The flavor contains lots of chocolate, wood, coffee, and grapefruit, leading to a dry end. But the body is thin. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 11, 2005 Dark and mostly black with a tan head. Very appetizing nose ... a big bouquet of chocolate, roast and toast. Chewy, rewarding texture. Very tasty malts, with chocolate, coffee and more (ran out of adjectives). Interesting balance/interplay between sweet, bitter, sour and roast ... very complementing. Solid stout. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 4, 2005 GABF 2005. Nearly opaque with dark brown highlights and a rich tan head. Aroma of cocoa, mild coffee, and burnt plum. Flavor beats a great espresso. Has subtle fruity tart acidity. Very pleasing with great depth of character.
