Sep 28, 2007 BJCP Training: Categories 3&4. Clear copper body with a small tan head. Sweet smoked aroma, with some light roast and toastiness. Sweet light smoke flavor, some caramel and toastiness with a light nuttiness in the end.

Sep 26, 2007 This brew pours a dark brown color with a medium thin beige head with decent retention. Stringy lacing. Roasted malt and nuts in the nose. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Roasted malt and caramel flavors, along with lightly floral hops. The finish is mildly nutty and sweet and does not last long. Decent overall.

Sep 24, 2007 This beer is okay. The aroma is malty and you can tell that it is going to have a lot of lager crispness. The flavor is much the same. Crisp and dry with moderate bitterness and maltiness. There is a slight coffee flavor, I wouldn’t call it burnt though.

Sep 23, 2007 Clear amber. Faint coffee aroma. Nutty flavor. Very slight burnt note at the finish that is a bit like very dark brown toast. Not bad, but not anything exciting either.

Sep 15, 2007 Nice rich flavor with a nice aroma. Dark brown, good carbonation. Bought a Penn Brewery variety pack and this was the best from the bunch.

Sep 9, 2007 "A lager with character! Nutty, roasted taste,but still crisp and clean. This is a different, yet different for the better, lager. Real good balance, good carbonation. I enjoyed this in the past, and hopefully i can find it again."

Sep 9, 2007 bottle - Pours dark brown with a thin head. It has a mild malt aroma. The flavor is mild, sweet caramel malt and quite bland. There’s a little hops in there and it’s a too thin, too watery beer. Sure it’s drinkable, but there’s just not nearly enough flavor here. Poor.

Sep 8, 2007 355 ml, looks like 01-07 bottling code. Nearly opaque chestnut with ruby highlights, and a medium and lasting head. Aroma is earthy spiced molasses, cocoa, and toasted nut with an occasional metallic flare. Taste has some chocolate, molasses, toasted nut, pepper, earthy spices and some sour tones. Tastes similar to a good brown ale, but maybe thinner. Palate is dryish, light-medium bodied, and almost watery. True to the style and much better than expected.
