| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 20, 2008 Reddish brown pour with minimal foam head. Great malt front with caramel notes which moves into the pallet. I guess what I like about this is the overall drinkability. A bit of roasted notes and some sweetness give this a nice body and flavor. Try on tap if you can. bdigital (591), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA

Sassafrass, caramel malts and floral hops noted along with some tame fruitiness. Flavor profile follows and ultimately ends up being pretty average. MrRain (437), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 10, 2008 12oz bottle poured into a dimpled mug. Despite the other ratings I found this to be an exceptional beer. I like dunkels anyway but this is pretty tasty. It pours brown with a medium-sized rocky head. The lacing is light and soapy looking. The aroma consists of toffee and something unidentifiable not quite like mild-to-medium hot pepper. The body is medium. The flavor is mildly burnt but not smoked. The malty toffee tones come through well balanced with the hops. This is nearly a gulping beer. The finish is quick with little after taste. agillespie81 (206), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 10, 2008 Dark brown color......opaque. Thick, creamy head. Very malty aroma, with a hint of sweetness. Slightly roasted flavor up front, with a basic malt base. Mouthfeel is a bit crisp, yet not overwhelming. Finishes dry, with a long bitterness. keepersj12 (816), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 5, 2008 Beer of the Month Club: Poured from the bottle into a pint class. The pour produced a nut-brown body with a rocky, tan head of foam. Chocolate malt aromas were present, with some notes of spice. Initial tasting is bitter and medium bodied. The palate is of strong coffee with a slight bittersweet after taste. Not bad: I wouldn’t walk a mile for it, but it was alright, I guess.... biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 31, 2008 Clear red, loose moderate head. Strange burnt wood, American lager yeast and noble hop aroma. Fairly bitter and a little astringent. The maltiness is not adequate for the style. It starts ok but quickly falls off and leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth.
