Commercial Description:
Munich and various roasted malts give it a very malty, rich flavor with a hint of burnt flavor. 100% imported Hallertau hops, moderate bitterness and aroma.

Bottle. Pours a darkish & translucent brown with a one/two finger tan head. Aromas are straightforward roasted malt. Flavor is roasted malt with a little bit of a tartness and some sawdust like earthiness. Comes off a little thin in the end, though. Not bad, but does little to distinguish itself.

Pours close to stout dark brown with a very minimal off white head. Smell is minimal malt, some faint chocolate and fig. Taste is stronger than the smell. Some malt, dried fruit, minimal molasses and coffee. Very light on the tongue with a lively and nice carbonation. Very smooth and drinkable beer. Yummy dunkel.

Sampled at the brewery in Pittsburgh in a pint glass. The aroma was quite weak, mild malt and hop notes, but hard to discern. A dark brown color with a slight dark-red tint and small off-white foamy head. The taste was mostly uninteresting, some hoppiness, and a bitter-sour effect, but largely mediocre. A wet, full and creamy mouthfull. I was disappointed by this beer, it was more-or-less boring.

Sampled on tap at GWBF 2007. This was my last beer of the day, and by then my palate and handwriting were degrading rapidly, but here goes...pours a dark amber with an off-white head. Pleasant aroma of caramel and lightly roasted malt. The flavor is again caramel and lightly roasted malt with some light bitterness at the finish. Slightly light bodied. A solid beer and a good finish to my day.

A sub par dunkel. I have had this many times before I started rating and remember this being better. Aroma was very weak...could pick up some roastiness but not much. Pour was beautiful. Dark brown with a nice 3 finger tan head. Taste was very thin and watery. A subdued roasted malt aftertaste that disappears as soon as you swallow. Blah.

Bottle: Poured a rich red woodsy color with a very thin but staying top. The aroma is sugary sweet, almost syrupy. It doesn’t quite carry to the flavor, thankfully, which is instead almost smoky, with a bit of roasty malt. The sweetness rears its head but a bit. The funkiness of adjunct-laced beers also starts to develop as I go. (#3156, 10/24/2007)

Dark brown in color. Slightly smokey malt aroma. Thin in the nose, the taste and the body. Not great.

Bottle from Belmont Party. Pours a clear brown color with a moderate frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted caramel malty aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good drinkable beer that met my expectations.
