| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Mar 21, 2009 (Bottle) Aroma rich, malty, complex, with a hint of skunkiness and a hint of alcohol. Outstanding example of this style. This really tastes like a German beer, even down to the details of the faint and not altogether unpleasant metallic character. However...tasting "German" and tasting "Good" are two different things. This beer has some objectionable qualities: a faint skunkiness, a bit too much alcohol in the aroma, and perhaps worst of all, an unpleasant funky sourness to the malt, characteristic of many macro brews (although the hops in this beer more than distinguish it from macros). Some good, some bad, perfectly drinkable, decent, but if I were the judge, not award-winning.
