Penn Oktoberfest

Sampled at the brewfest in Adamstown. Pours copper with an off-white head. Aroma of sweet malts, caramel, and earth. The flavor is sweet malts, caramel, and slight hoppiness. Thin body.

As I keep noticing, this is not my favorite style of beer. This one is a crystal clear dark amber, with a small and quickly vanishing head that leaves minimal patches of lace. Nose is sweet malt and caramel. Taste is sweet malt and toffee, floral hops, and a moderate bitter finish. Mouth is dry, as in chalky and tannic.

Best by December of 2006... Appears a copper toned amber with a fluffy, off-white head that slowly fades out. Scattered lacing is left behind. Smell is malty with notes of caramel, toffee, candy, herbs, and fruits. Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a sort of metallic, and bitter, herbal hoppiness that is found in the flavor. I can’t say that I’m crazy about the latter statement but I’m on the fence with it and I keep drinking it so that tells me what I need to know. Mouthfeel is crisp, sweet, mildly bitter, along with a mild acidic finish. Overall, not too bad but not making me want to run out and buy any more cases.

Bottle-Poured a nice, uniform copper color with a very small head. The aroma is maltly and the taste is a solid mix of caramel and hops with a pinch of spice thrown in. I’ve notice that the level of chewiness really depends on the bottle, seems to be wildly inconsistant, but overall an enjoyable fall brew.

Bottle... Clear amber lager with a small, wispy, off-white head. Aroma of caramel and earthy, spicy hops. Malty-sweet flavor with good hop crispness. Medium-bodied and sticky with lively carbonation. Finishes sweet, lightly bitter and finally dry. True to style.

Bottle. Pours clear caramel with thin off white head. Aroma is malt, earthy, nutty, and vanilla. Flavor is bitter hops, malt, earthy.

Very average. Looks like apple cider. Smells very lightly fruity and spicy. Flavor is kinda spicy and kinda chewy and bready, but nothing really stands out. Easy to drink (as I did by the jug at the Penn Brewery Oktoberfest) but nothing special.

Pours amber with a one-finger off-white head. Good aroma: sweet, toffeeish, like a subdued doppelbock. The flavor begins nice and malty but drops off halfway through and becomes astringent and metallic. The finish is lightly nutty, lightly hoppy, but mostly odd and unsatisfying.
