Commercial Description:
A compelling argument for a bigger stocking! It’s the last of Penn Brewery’s Small Batch Brews for 2007. Packaged in a twenty-five ounce bottle with a decorative foil neck and festive velvet embroidered bag, it’s one more present to look forward to this time of year. <br />At this joyous time of year, do not settle for ordinary beer. You’ve been good. Get what you deserve. Don’t settle for less than the Brewer’s Reserve

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS....let this beer age. It gets softer and its layers of flavor become easier to discern as it ages. I have had both batch 001 and 002 and I can not say a bad word about them. Big malty nose rising from the depths of a mahogany abyss, laced with dried cherries, molasses, and a faint herbal hop tinge in the back ground. I suggest drinking from a liter stein or "das boot" to get the full effect. I don’t know how long they should be kept around, but I have a case of 001 and a case of 002, and they show no signs of oxidizing or turning yet. I can’t wait to see if they can bring another batch around this year!

750 mL bottle courtesy of CrellMoset. Batch 001. Thanks! Pours a clear ruby-strawberry color with a medium head. Fair head retention and lacing. Dark malty aroma with raisins, toasted coconut, molasses, slight alcohol. The taste seems a bit weak with notes of molasses and raisin. Muted hops. Thin-medium bodied and it just borders on watery.

Bottle was nearly 2 years old, but much smoother than the regular bock. Still a deep copper color with a nice tan head. Breaddy maltly aroma. Taste was full and smooth. A slight roasty sweet flavor. Creamy and very drinkable. Kudos to the reserve

Batch 001 purchased at Rozi’s in Lakewood. The pour gave a really hazy murky muddy brown with almost no head. The flavor is quite earthy for a lager, and with good bitterness at the end. The aroma is a pretty light woody earth scent with a medium caramel malt scent. The flavor is pretty enjoyable, not too complex and has the good ol Penn brewery flavor. Its pretty solid with chewy malt, but not to clowying. Palate is a little thin, and it ends rather nicely with a little bit of crispness.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color, medium tan head. The nose is a malt bomb wtih some yeast, bread, crackers, few spices and a dash of hops. Flavor is very malty with some spice notes. A bit thin on the palate.
