merlin48 (352), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA Jun 22, 2008 Batch 001 pours a brown mahogany body with a small beige head that leaves some spotty lacing. Aroma of malty toffee, herbal hops, and hints of cocoa and pears. Medium body and carbonation. Taste is rich maltiness, with an emphasis on toffee. Herbal hops impart a sturdy bitterness Vague fruity hints are less assertive than in the aroma. A pretty good American bock but I was hoping for better.
Immy (1583), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Oct 5, 2008 Capped 750 - batch #001. I think I’ve had this before, at an Argo0 tasting, and lost the rating. Anyway, pretty packaging - gold foil wrapped and in a red velvet (not really) bag. Seems like a lot of dressing for such a mediocre beer. Clear, deep brown with a beige head. Big sweet nose, malty and brown sugary, caramel and a mild raisin note. Sweet caramel and chocolate, lightly roasty, some brown sugar. A mild prune note. Actually, I like this much better than I did the first go, but still not a stellar beer. Pretty drinkable, though. PorterPounder (2851), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 19, 2008 Tampa, Fl. - Whole Foods - 750 ml bottle.Pours a dark chestnut brown with a nice frothy head that sticks around quite a while. Sweet aroma with hints of cotton candy and wort. Rib sticking flavor with some caramel, molasses, nuts and a bit of brown sugar. Quite complex for a bock. Thickish, rich mouthfeel. Very decent bock. LooseCannon (678), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Aug 28, 2008 750ml bottle, Batch 001. Pours reddish copper in color with thin brown head. Aroma malty and roasted notes. Taste of malt and roasted nuts with dry finish. Sammy (3135), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 23, 2008 A lovely drinking bock, and happy for me I found it at StateLine Liquors. Pours dark, not overly foamy. Malty yet not too sweet.A tad of sourness. Balance, above average mouthfeel. Great after dinner digestive. Spot on. MrBunn (889), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 30, 2008 750 ml bottle in a fancy red bag and all... (Batch 1). Pour is a dark brown, but as I’m pouring it looks like it has an almost pink color to it... Head is fairly substantial. Aromas are dusty grains. Flavor is almost completely malt and roast... with a little hint of alcohol and some nuttiness in the aftertaste. This makes this a fairly simple, yet decent brew.
