Can definitely pick up some toffee notes as well...Average body with a thick texture and surprising lively carbonation...Lightly bitter and moderately acidic with a flavor that stuck around for some time...Overall, highly carbonated but still a quality brew. A very sweet, yet roasty finish with a complex mouth feel (thin up front, creamy going down). Tastes a bit like drinking a shot of liquor through a licorice twizler. An easy drinking cold weather beer. Great label as well. beerczar69 (39), Pennsylvania, USA

This late 2006 version of this beer is the very best they have made.Try it and i bet you love it.They rate the alcohol as 6.8 but seems much higher than that. urbnhautebourg (974), Annapolis, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 15, 2006 There is so much talk here about over- and under-rated breweries. Oftentimes, folk say that Stone is underated. Well, they are not. They are great. It is just a matter of how great they are. Not so with Penn. These fellows were pioneers and nobody gives them their proper due. UNTIL NOW. In any event, St. Nikolaus is real Bock. If you like this, you like Bock. If you like Bock, you like this. This is not Maibock. It is not Doppelbock. It is straight Bock and it is excellent. Perfect level of richness, perfect level of sweetness. The only fault I can find is as follows: with Penn’s Dark, its Oktoberfest, and its Maerzen, each present a strange and special flavor that sort of sets it apart. This beer is sort of right down the line. And what’s more, it held up nicely, for I am sure it was brewed several months ago. mccarthy (7), USA does not count | 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Apr 9, 2006 This is a must beer. My yellow fizzy something drinking friends who won’t touch a micro even love this beer. It will make your cheeks rosey and put a twinkle in your eye! raymow (738), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA

Nice sweetness, caramel, malt, roasty and slightly chocolatey. Pick some up next Christmas (if the brewery is still open - I think they’re having trouble). lamas (715), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA

LOTS of caramel in the incredibly sweet aroma along with some chocolate, vanilla extract and alcohol. Medium to thin-bodied. Quite a bit of caramel taste-wise too. Smooth and chocolatey. Brown sugar throughout with some hints of molasses and wintery spices. Fairly roasty. A very sweet beer. jason (1621), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
