Commercial Description:
Until the 19th century, St. Nikolaus was a tall, stern, patriarch in bishop's robes. Then he became a sky-riding, jolly old elf. He may be a milk-and-cookies kind of guy today, but he knows what you want and it's this St. Nikolaus Bock Bier. It's rich, dark and full-bodied, brewed with a variety of roasted and chocolate malts. Celebrate the holidays with St. Nikolaus. He's in this bottle. Gee, we hope you've been good this year.

This is a great session beer. It’s not much to look at, but it’s tasty and easy to drink... all night.

Pours a dark malty brown with a smallish light brown head. Smells of banana, other dark fruits, sweet caramel malts, and a touch of roast too. The flavor was much the same. Pretty standard for a bock brew. The banana was apparent along with the malty sweetness, which wasnt too much over the top like some can be. Fairly solid brew from a mediocre brewery.

1/11/08. Draft @ Coney. Pours brown w/ amber hues. Foamy beige head. Nose isn’t very discernible. Hints of sweet malt, some fruitiness, but not much. Taste is malty, sweet w/ some caramel and chocolate. Minimal bitterness and hop character, only really noticeable in crisp ending. Really sweet. Mouthfeel is a bit lacking, watery. Not bad, but not a standout.

Nice chunky brown coloured body with a perfect sized tan head. Nearly perfect for the style. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, cherries, pit fruits and a bit of alcohol - fairly nice. Medium-bodied; Roasted malt up front with hints of nuts and raisins with some plums shortly behind. Aftertaste shows mostly must and metal - nothing special here! Overall, a decent beer, showing some promise but having it fade away slowly near the end. Worth trying, but don’t be expecting an amazing dunkel. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 15-January-2008.

12oz bottle. Tawny brown with red at the sides of the glass, and a low forming, unexciting head. Nose of dried cherries and cranberries, cashews, almonds and bread. Moderately sweet bready malts with semi-sour cherry syrup, caramel and almond up front, turning quickly to a pasty, stale bread flavored finish.
