Commercial Description:
Until the 19th century, St. Nikolaus was a tall, stern, patriarch in bishop's robes. Then he became a sky-riding, jolly old elf. He may be a milk-and-cookies kind of guy today, but he knows what you want and it's this St. Nikolaus Bock Bier. It's rich, dark and full-bodied, brewed with a variety of roasted and chocolate malts. Celebrate the holidays with St. Nikolaus. He's in this bottle. Gee, we hope you've been good this year.

This is out of the bottle. I had this on draft this year and it was fantastic. The past few years bottles have also been fantastic. This years bottles seem off. The smell is very malty, and so is the taste with a crisp lager twang, that almost seems overwhelming. While there are some banana and camrel tastes, newspaper and cardboard flavors abound, and destroy with is generally a tasty brew. Tough to even finish. Wonder what happened.. If I have another bottle and it’s better, I’ll re-review.

Thanks to MuenchenerKindl for the opportunity to try this one Strong pour produced a small tan head on a dark reddish brown body the head and lace goes away quickly. Smell of malts and some caramel fill the nose Taste of sweet malts and caramel as well as some spice that really helps balance this out The mouth feel is nice and smooth A very drinkable beer would seek after it again

dark brown with slight white head. flavor is mostly composed of malts with some evidence of some Munich variety, definite some fruitiness to the malt that really is the most pleasant aspect of the beer. the hop flavor is not really evident but the beer is decently balanced. a rather flavorful lager, likely their best

Bottle... Clear, deep, dark, mahogany lager with a small, creamy, white head. Chocolaty, nutty bouquet presents subtle notes of coconut, pistachio, cashew, cola and vanilla. Smells more like brown ale than a dunkler bock. The flavor is thin, but follows suit with observations of chocolate, cola and nuts with a touch of vanilla. Surprisingly, leans just a tad on the bitter side of balance. Medium-bodied and watery with lively carbonation. Lengthy, bitter, mouth-drying finish.

The aroma registed a typical dunkel malt profile but not much hops. It pours a clear dark ruby with light carbonation and some viscosity. The flavor is mainly a clean, balanced blend of chocolate and caramel malt. It leaves a mild sweetness and a slight alcohol burn, and the texture is quite full. I could stand more hoppiness, but I still enjoyed this one. However at the retail price it does not stand up to its competitors.

Bottle from Jungle Jim’s. Poured clear dark brown with a large frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Solid balanced toasted malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth sticky texture. Moderate balanced roasted flavor with a medium sweet finish of average duration. Good brew with spicy food.
