Commercial Description:
Until the 19th century, St. Nikolaus was a tall, stern, patriarch in bishop's robes. Then he became a sky-riding, jolly old elf. He may be a milk-and-cookies kind of guy today, but he knows what you want and it's this St. Nikolaus Bock Bier. It's rich, dark and full-bodied, brewed with a variety of roasted and chocolate malts. Celebrate the holidays with St. Nikolaus. He's in this bottle. Gee, we hope you've been good this year.

Tap at HDG. Deep red tinted brown beer with a thick light tan coloured head. Nice rich malt aroma, dark plumminess, brown sugar, deeply toasted malt and a soft wheaty spiciness. Clean toasted malts throughout. Light demerara sugar/molasses. Chewy sweetness with a malty plumminess. A bit too sweet perhaps, but very good nonetheless.

Deep garnet-red body, thin buff head. Sweet, sugary aroma backed by grassy hops, exhibiting a thin tartness with poorly developed caramels and toasts. The body was thin, with brown sugar, toast, and bitter esters in addition to a touch of tobacco, but this medley of flavors lacked punch. Watery, lacking pizazz.

Bottle: Mahogany, nice white head and sticky light lacing. Nose of toast and fruit, some light spice and herb, very biscuity. A nice drinker at night. The flavor is full bodied and spicy with a well rounded malty backbone. Clean finish. Extremely drinkable. Thanks Nate!

bottle from bottle aquired via trade with Schutzenliesel..dark brown, almost black pour..aroma of bread, grass, sugar, spice, and light plum...flavor is heavily sugared, finishing very grassy...hints of dark fruits as well (perhaps cherry?)...

Oh yeah, nothing like an X-mas seasonal on the longest day of the year at least the temps haven’t hit the 90’s yet! Abundant aroma of sugary bready malt with some spices and red wine. Dark amber pour, little tan head, and no lacing. Creamy and filling, velvety and smooth as well. Flavor is exceptional especially for the style. Fermented plums and raisins combined with sweet malts and cherries. A sprinkling of roasted malt as well with a dry honey aftertaste. This seasonal was treated nice and is well blended, too bad it was merely a lone single on the bottom shelf because this is really good.

12 oz bottle from the Eppeist (thanks man!). This one is a dark brown with a small beige head. Nose is malty with some subtle fruitiness, most berries. Taste is sweet, toasty and a tiny bit of sourness. Sort of a sweet n sour n toasty! Like orange marmalade on a biscuit, but instead of orange....strawberry marmalade..well if there was such a thing, but you get my drift? There is also a bit of chocolate malts and some nuttiness in the finish/aftertaste. Medium body and moderate/high carbonation. A decent bock that i would be happy to chugalug on my patio without much thought. In otherwords, there is nothing wrong with this beer...’s ok in my book.

Poured from a well-chilled 12 oz bottle. Deep brown or crimson with a bare whisper of a off-white foamy head that virtually disappeared after 10 seconds. Aroma? Not much ... a virtual whimper to the olfactory senses ... roasted barley, maybe a slight swirl of fresh pine. Thankfully, the flavor is more entertaining ... moderately robust with some dark cherry, bitter chocolate, and a bitter finish. Good. (#2724, 2/23/2007)
