| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 19, 2007 Bottle from SL. The pour was brownish red with a thin initial off-white head, only fair retention, spotty lacing. The aroma was chocolate, light dark fruit notes, some bubblegum, and a grassy/earthy presence. The flavor followed, some chocolate, light roasty dark fruits, some hints of licorice, and a grassy, somewhat dry bready finish, yet with a malt base underneath at the same time. A nice bock for sure. Beerlando (2340), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 2, 2008 Pours a dark but transparent caramel brown color. A small, fizzy, off-white head settles to a wispy film, leaving just some minimal sudsy lacing behind. The aroma shows primarily sweet dark fruits and caramel malts, with minimal floral hops. The flavor follows that same pattern, with dark malts dominating the mild floral hop component. Notes of figs and plums provide a dominating, sweet, dark fruity background. Medium bodied, this one finishes short and rather dry. Decent brew, but far from special. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 21, 2004 Appearance: a bright plummy color, with a short, slight head above.
Aroma: Super-fat malt at the forefront, thick, rich, sweet, wow!, loaded with character, slightly spicy, quite a treat.
Taste: considerable heft on the palate, again, rich, malty, spicy, chock full of dark fruits, cherries, berries, raisins, etc., plus a yeasty bready quality. Quite a kicky ginger cookie we’ve got here, just the thing to make the jolly old man pleased as holiday punch. Medium to full body, with a long, lingering finish, sits happily on the palate, gets comfortable, provides a spicy, fruity blend of pleasure with every sip.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 6, 2003 Pours a mildly cloudy mahogany with a 2 cm light tan head. Aroma is malty-maybe some chocolate in there. Slightly metallic aroma(AGAIN--lots of these Penn Beers have this taste) Start is choco-coffee-porter acidic taste to start. Mellows down significantly. Pretty-one dimensional. A little too carbonated. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

12 oz bottle. Nice aroma. Lots of raisin and malt..some spiciness and cola notes. Deep reddish brown color with a pretty two ginger thick tan head. Sweet raisin and black licorice fore. Cramel malts. Molasses and brown sugar. I wouldn’t mind a little more flavor intensity, but this is still very nice. Silphium (2137), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 18, 2007 Deep garnet-red body, thin buff head. Sweet, sugary aroma backed by grassy hops, exhibiting a thin tartness with poorly developed caramels and toasts. The body was thin, with brown sugar, toast, and bitter esters in addition to a touch of tobacco, but this medley of flavors lacked punch. Watery, lacking pizazz.
