Commercial Description:
Until the 19th century, St. Nikolaus was a tall, stern, patriarch in bishop's robes. Then he became a sky-riding, jolly old elf. He may be a milk-and-cookies kind of guy today, but he knows what you want and it's this St. Nikolaus Bock Bier. It's rich, dark and full-bodied, brewed with a variety of roasted and chocolate malts. Celebrate the holidays with St. Nikolaus. He's in this bottle. Gee, we hope you've been good this year.

Dark brown color with light head. Sweet aroma of dark fruits, chocolate and some spices. Taste is a strange sweet, sour, & spicy mix that was OK, but seemed a bit unbalanced and mixed up. Drinkable, but they could have done better.

Not a bad bock. Good balance of malts. Pretty tasty! Not one I would want everyday but a nice seasonal beer. Cheers!

Draught at Speakeasy. Another bartender recommendation gone bad. I even tasted this one before I ordered a pint but could not bring myself to say no. Boring dunkler bock here. Faint nose and flavor is malt and little else. This beer is very far from being rich.

From a 12 oz. bottle with a blurb on the back label, no freshness date, but I know this is the winter ’06 release. Poured a ruby hued light coffee brown with a frothy, foamy off-white head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing, minimal amount of laced sticking. Aromas of roasted malts with a touch of nutty chocolate, a berry fruitiness and earthy hops. Good, even, moderate carbonation and a malty crisp, velvety smooth medium bodied mouthfeel. Just a pleasant bock taste, roasted grains and coffee with chocolate drizzled in, caramelized sugar, a bit nutty, a soft berry fruitiness, earthy, herbal hops that complement the malts, the alcohol is very subtle, but you can taste it towards the end, and a sweet roasted malty finish. Amazingly easy drinkability, highly quaffable, a good seasonal bock, one of the better ones I’ve had.

Deep brown color; non-existent head; Grapey aroma. Heavy burnt malt flavors attack you right away. Small amount of brown sugar. Slight sour notes at mid-glass (bile?). Palate is strange- thin upfront but heavy feeling at back of throat. An uneven beer.

Bottle. Pour is a dark brown with a medium head that dies back quickly. Aromas are weak... of malt, maybe a touch of peat, dark fruit and chocolate, but not very interesting. Flavor is fairly heavy on the chocolate malt, but a fairly light and sweet chocolate. The sweetness dominates most of the flavors as it transitions into a somewhat earthy/woody finish. Fairly well constructed, but nothing that really shines out to let you feel like you’ve had something remarkable.

Pours a dark brown with a reddish hue. Thin, loose off-white head. Mild, slightly nutty aroma, some light malty characters. Decent toasty flavors with a very mild suggestion of roast. Kind of an even finish, with some light sweetness. Decent, but nothing extraordinary.

pint at Tylers Apex. Sweet aroma. Nutty, caramel, chocolate, fruity. Orangy brown color, Small head, no lace. Sweet flavor, like aroma with the caramel and chocolate being most of it. Minor citrus streak about it. Medium body, Smooth creamy mouth feel, bitter dry finish. Good, flavor was my favorite part as I thought it had a great balance of the caramel and chocolate.
