Aroma is malty-maybe some chocolate in there. Slightly metallic aroma(AGAIN--lots of these Penn Beers have this taste) Start is choco-coffee-porter acidic taste to start. Mellows down significantly. Pretty-one dimensional. A little too carbonated. brewbandit (312), Marietta, Georgia, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 9, 2009 This is the first beer I’m sampling from a massive trade made with Zach8270, thanks Zach! I love bocks so was glad to get this one, that I haven’t seen around here.
Aroma is heavy molasses, some graham crackers and through and through you can tell they didn’t hold back on the malt. The appearance is a nice red but has a very minimal head, but nice lacing. The palate is sweet, has a nice small-bubble carbonation feel, then it is a tad light in a middle with a wee bit of hops to dry out the end. Nice. As it warms, the maltiness comes out even more, and is less watery. No alcohol detected.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 19, 2005 Updated: Mar 20, 2005A very enjoyable Bock which is more flavorful than the other beers in the sampler pack. The beer is flavorful and smooth all at the same time. It could use more in the flavor department because not much sets it apart from other Bocks. beerbill (1968), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 22, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a mostly clear deep reddish amber with a thin tan head that faded to a ring after two sips and left considerable spotty lace. The aroma is malt with a bit of roast and some light stale mustiness, almost like old cigarette smoke. Thankfully, the mustiness is nowhere to be seen in the flavor, which is predominantly malt again with a bit of roast. Medium hops bitterness at the finish that actually grows in the strength after the swallow and lingers in the back of the throat. Not great, but not a bad beer either. As an aside, I like the Thomas Nast portrait of St. Nick on the label. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 9, 2007 Pours a dark brown with a reddish hue. Thin, loose off-white head. Mild, slightly nutty aroma, some light malty characters. Decent toasty flavors with a very mild suggestion of roast. Kind of an even finish, with some light sweetness. Decent, but nothing extraordinary. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 1, 2007 Pours a reddish-brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of dark fruits, brown sugar, and some toasted malts. Flavor is of very slight roasted malts, brown sugar, and some dark fruits up front. Finishes with some toasted malts. Flavor was different from the aroma and a little better but not really as good as I was hoping.
