Mild, slightly nutty aroma, some light malty characters. Decent toasty flavors with a very mild suggestion of roast. Kind of an even finish, with some light sweetness. Decent, but nothing extraordinary. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA

Aroma is of dark fruits, brown sugar, and some toasted malts. Flavor is of very slight roasted malts, brown sugar, and some dark fruits up front. Finishes with some toasted malts. Flavor was different from the aroma and a little better but not really as good as I was hoping. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 17, 2007 12 oz bottle from the Eppeist (thanks man!). This one is a dark brown with a small beige head. Nose is malty with some subtle fruitiness, most berries. Taste is sweet, toasty and a tiny bit of sourness. Sort of a sweet n sour n toasty! Like orange marmalade on a biscuit, but instead of orange....strawberry marmalade..well if there was such a thing, but you get my drift? There is also a bit of chocolate malts and some nuttiness in the finish/aftertaste. Medium body and moderate/high carbonation. A decent bock that i would be happy to chugalug on my patio without much thought. In otherwords, there is nothing wrong with this beer...’s ok in my book. Derek881 (502), Frederick, Maryland, USA

The beer had a dark brown color with a ruby-red tint and a creamy, dark tan head. The aroma was mostly of figs and some roasty malt. The taste was mostly a mixture of bitterness with some sourness too. A wet and somewhat creamy body, with a smooth effect. Good seasonal brew, probably the best the brewery has to offer. Taste is a strange sweet, sour, & spicy mix that was OK. Thanks for the trade JB. monty (39), Dallas, Texas, USA

1 December 2005.
Bottle.
Pour produces a tiny-bubbled head that dissipates bit stays. Aroma is of toffee, sweet malt and raisins. Flavors continue to be heavily influenced by toffee, but become overly sweet as the beer warms.
I like this, and like nearly all of Penn’s lineup, it is good but not stellar. A little more balance and a little less sweetness would be a start.

The aroma is sweet and very malty, but also with strong notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty combined with notes of straw and hints of alcohol.
