Taste is a strange sweet, sour, & spicy mix that was OK. Thanks for the trade JB. monty (39), Dallas, Texas, USA

1 December 2005.
Bottle.
Pour produces a tiny-bubbled head that dissipates bit stays. Aroma is of toffee, sweet malt and raisins. Flavors continue to be heavily influenced by toffee, but become overly sweet as the beer warms.
I like this, and like nearly all of Penn’s lineup, it is good but not stellar. A little more balance and a little less sweetness would be a start.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 23, 2007 Poured from a well-chilled 12 oz bottle. Deep brown or crimson with a bare whisper of a off-white foamy head that virtually disappeared after 10 seconds. Aroma? Not much ... a virtual whimper to the olfactory senses ... roasted barley, maybe a slight swirl of fresh pine. Thankfully, the flavor is more entertaining ... moderately robust with some dark cherry, bitter chocolate, and a bitter finish. Good. (#2724, 2/23/2007) craven5000 (56), Westville, Indiana, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 13, 2004 The head was a light tan and a bit creamy. Aroma at first reminded me of spicy apples. Then it was just spicy. The body was a very dark ruby red. The flavor was spicy, a little sweet and felt warm. At first this beer tasted great, but quickly I was desiring something else. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 4, 2007 Bottle. Pour is a dark brown with a medium head that dies back quickly. Aromas are weak... of malt, maybe a touch of peat, dark fruit and chocolate, but not very interesting. Flavor is fairly heavy on the chocolate malt, but a fairly light and sweet chocolate. The sweetness dominates most of the flavors as it transitions into a somewhat earthy/woody finish. Fairly well constructed, but nothing that really shines out to let you feel like you’ve had something remarkable. jcwattsrugger (5583), Florida and, New Jersey, USA
