Commercial Description:
Until the 19th century, St. Nikolaus was a tall, stern, patriarch in bishop's robes. Then he became a sky-riding, jolly old elf. He may be a milk-and-cookies kind of guy today, but he knows what you want and it's this St. Nikolaus Bock Bier. It's rich, dark and full-bodied, brewed with a variety of roasted and chocolate malts. Celebrate the holidays with St. Nikolaus. He's in this bottle. Gee, we hope you've been good this year.

Poured a reddish copper color with a medium sized off white head and some lacing. Spicy clove and banana aroma. Rather malty, some chocolate, slightly spicy, some alcohol in the finish. I would classify this more as a weizenbock as opposed to just a regular bock.

Bottle:   Heavy amber, dark and deep, moderate foamy sand colored head, a few rings of lacing.   Bready nose, faint dark pitted fruit.   Rather bready on the tongue, a little fig/date and soy.   Fairly tasty.   Mild sweetness.   Decent body.   Bready finish, but not overly done.   Soft dark pitted fruit.   Stand up good example of a Bock in my book.

Bottle. I had this for the first time at the 2002 beer exchange. Thanks JZ. This one pours nice and dark amber with a spicy nose and a great spicy malty caramel flavor. Good solid body and mouthfeel with a nice finish of solid malts an bitterness that falls into a peppery spice. Good stuff, as always from Penn.

Kind of a weak malt nose. A little sweetness. Looks a dark ruby color with a big frothy off-white color head. Tastes pretty good. A good blend of a few different malt taste with some tasty spices in the finish.

Beer pours amber brown with a really nice head that dissipated to nothing in record time. Aroma was sweet bready malts, as was the flavor, with caramel, fruits and a lot of brown sugar. A bit thin and watery, but not horrible.

This is one of my favorite penn beers. Great chocolate malt flavor with a nice hop balance.

Pours dark ruby color with light tam head. Fruity and malty aroma. Sweet flavors of dark fruits, candy sugar. Medium to full body with average carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. Not bad.
