One litre swing-top bottle obtained at the Liquor Shop in Tyngsborro, Mass. Pours a translucent dark brown body with ruby-red highlights and a thin film of light tan head. Caramel, toffee make up the aroma with hints of peat and smoke. Rich caramel, toffee, dark chocolate, coffee with hints of peat and smoke compose the flavor. Dates and nuts also make very subtle appearances. Rich full body with ample carbonation. A sweet pleasant combination of flavors and very drinkable for the complexity and full-bodiedness. Another sweet treat from what’s fast becoming one of my favorite somewhat local breweries. Another slam-dunk from Pennechuck - well worth the cost!

Big ass bottle. Brown pour, yellowish/tan head. Aroma is smokey, malty, caramel, peat, raisins and maybe a slight hint of hops. Flavor is smoke, sweetness, caramel, nuts, peat, caramel. Damn I really enjoyed this. A lot!

1 L fliptop bottle. Dark brown beer with a thick fluffy tan head. Aroma is great. Sweet, smoky and peaty. Loads of rich sweet smokiness over a rich toffeeish base. Lightly fruity and plummy with a light molasses sweetness. Sweet and toffeeish flavour with even more smoke retronasally. Man, this stuff rocks.

Pours brown with a tan head. Smells of light peat, brown sugar, caramel, spice, peppery. Tastes sweet and malty with some roasty hints on the finish.

1 liter swing top bottle. Pours a semi clear brown color with reddish highlights, 1/2" tan head which recedes quickly and no lasting lace. Nose is malty with a sublte smokyness. Brew has a nice smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Sweet brew with tastes of caramel & brown sugar. I will agree with jimhilt, it is on the pricey side. I paid $10.99 at Jaspers Home Brew in Nashua N.H All in all, another excellent effort by Pennichuck.

Throwdown. Hazy brown. Candy caramel melanoidin malt nose. Rounded smoky caramel flavors. Balanced finish with soft carbonation, I like it.

Deep reddish brown. Aroma of molasses, a touch of smoke. Flavor matches, lots of rich malts. Can’t say that it is particularly comlex. But quite tasty.

20080510 From growler at Pauls 1st Hoboken gathering. Thanks to JCWattsrugger. Pretty smoky with peat and plenty of earth tones. Soft mouthfeel. Nice and strong but well disguised and balanced.
