PIney aroma with sweets. Nothing terribly impressive, but not awful NachlamSie (1644), Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 8, 2009 Bomber from Hop City. Pours really thick and dark brown with heavy legs and a small ring of head. The aroma is a little hoppy, not really sharp. Kind of reminds me of a barleywine. Raisins, a bit of hay, toffee, earth. . .The palate is very thick and not a crap ton of hops are present. Is this old? I don’t know. It doesn’t smell cheesy or aged, just malty. Lots of earth, toffee, raisins, bread, maple. This is not a good IIPA, but this is a good strong ale. It’s well rounded and balanced. Great drinker. Pretty heavy without completely weighing me down. It is a very fine ale, that much is clear. On tap at Rattle’n’Hum. Chocolatey, malty flavor with plenty of brown sugar. Vinous and tangy too, and lots of hops. 4 points - buurrrpp! Ordered this as part of a flight, and the aroma was so malty, I was worried I was confusing this with Oaked Arrogant Bastard. Once it went into my mouth an admittedly strong wave of piny bitterness poked through, but intensely sticky, caramel malt was still the highlight. Certainly not what I was expecting, and just ok overall. omhper (12247), Stockholm, Sweden
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Oct 3, 2009 Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Hazy amber, small head. Sour sock aroma. Sweet and full bodied. Very fruity with wild yeast battling pine needles. Notes of pear and wet wood. Salty sourish resiny bitter finish. Strange and quite failed, although never really unpleasant. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Oct 1, 2009 Draft. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Wow this is malty as hell, caramelized pine and earthy tones hops. More like a salty hoppy barely wine. Eh did not enjoy this. nqualls (1428), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
