For a double Ipa, it has quite a high malt and sweet caramel profile; strong body, bold, with resiny hops; it also has a nutty character in the aroma, and light hop fruits overall. Solid, powerful and very enjoyable. unclemattie (2439), Georgia, USA

22oz bottle. Hazy reddish brown color, light tan head. Nasty lacing coats the entire glass. Aroma of oxidized DIPA. Caramel, nice fruit, dates and floral hops, oxidized citrus. Flavor has a deep malt backbone, lots of toasted grain, a bit of fruit, light date, a touch of spice left on the palate. Yes, fruit and dates, lots of spice. Very bold flavor, full bodied. Light carbonation although it carries a tall head. And wow, that lacing. Finishes with a bit of cedar and some pine resin hops. And even deeper in the finish is a bit of salt, are there minerals left behind in the water? Good! A very nice competion to Arrogent Bastard. A bit closer to an American BarleyWine than a DIPA. Very well done.

It is a very fine ale, that much is clear. On tap at Rattle’n’Hum. Chocolatey, malty flavor with plenty of brown sugar. Vinous and tangy too, and lots of hops. 4 points - buurrrpp! Appearance: Poured roughly into a .5L Willey Becker producing a LOT of head. Tan sudsy and stiff. Deep copper color and clear.
Nose: Lots of malt profile coming through some sticky hop notes.
Palate: Fairly bitter, but not aggressive up front. This beer shows a lot of the caramel/munich-style malt flavors with some added citrus from the hops. Bitter, but not extreme. Good balance.
Notes: A well balanced Imp. IPA. Is it my favorite, no, but is it well made, yes. For people who like big beers but don’t like unbalanced beers. mcox90 (654), Wilton, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 6, 2009 From growler purchased at the brewery. Clear mahogany pour with good sized foamy head. Random lace coats my glass. Nose is heavy on the grapefruit scented hops with a nice mixture of sweet malt and sugars. Moderate bodied palate with an average amount of carbonation. Enough hop bitterness to make you pucker just a bit. Flavor is initially sweet, with the taste of sugar, toffee and dark fruit mixed in with grapefruit hop, but by the finish, it’s all hop. Another excellent effort from Pennichuck. jimbowood (970), Athens, Georgia, USA

This one has a mostly sweet aroma with lots of caramel, toffee, some sugars, light pine/citrus hops, but mostly sweet and malt forward. Pours a really pretty amber color with some reddish/purplish hues and a wonderful creamy head and good lace. Really a nice looking beer. Sweet up front and pretty much throughout. Lots of caramel, toffee, and sugars. Not cloying, just well done sweetness approaching barley wine waters. Malt forward aspect is followed by citrus, pine and pepper in the finish that linger for a minute. Smooth and creamy with a hint of alcoholic heat in the finish as well. The more I think about it the more I enjoyed it even though it was the antithesis of how I like my IIPA’s...
