beernovice39 (237), South Carolina, USA Nov 2, 2009 Had never seen this stuff until today. Very tasty lager and got more flavorful as it warmed up. Plan on trying some others by this brewer. ruskiimperial (51), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 27, 2009 From a bomber bottle. Note: This was about a year old so it may have been slightly past its prime. Pours a dark color with a finger of head which disappeared very quickly. The aroma has some roasted malts and slight sweetness. The initial flavor is that of dark fruit sweetness and roasted malts. Some coffee is also present, though its very slight. On the aftertaste some of the noble hop profile comes through. Overall its very well balanced and a very decent dark lager. Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA Sep 5, 2009 Aroma is rich, smoky and yeasty with a nutty hint, quite appealing. It pours a deep, barely translucent sable that shows reddish brown at the bottom and has a frothy light tan head that hangs around for a bit. Flavor is spicy, malty, a little smoky with woody and caramel hints. Texture is smooth and lively, bubbly and tingly. ScottyP (314), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA Sep 3, 2009 Pours a dark brown with beige head. Aroma of roast, chocolate, malts. Similar taste, some hops in the finish.. Nothing exciting here. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Sep 3, 2009 Bomber shared at Scottyp’s housewarming tasting. Pours a very dark brown with clear mahogany highlights and fair light tan head. Nose of roast, and oats, and fades to chocolatey tones in the flavor. Some cardboard notes come out too, but this is still a fun beer. Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 3, 2009 Lasting ring of beige head. Dark brown body. Aromas of floral and roast. Very roasted taste. Roasted, thin finish. ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Sep 2, 2009 Appearance: Pours a near black body with some ruby-hued hints at the edges and capped with a medium-sized, ivory-hued head.
Smell: The nose is comprised of light roasted notes smelling of thinned out molasses, Breakfast Blend coffee, nuts, half a Tootsie Roll, and fruit.
Taste: Assortment of roasted malts tastes - mild coffee, sweetish Tootsie Rolls, more nuts, and charred grains. Subtle hint of dark fruitiness. Spicy Noble hops blend with the roastiness from the blackened malts. Larger toasty caramel tones on the latter half. Drying finishes with lingering hints from the hops and roasted malts.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel.
Drinkability: A solid, satisfactory Schwarzbier that goes down easy. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Aug 31, 2009
