Commercial Description:
Schwarzbier (shvahrts-beer) is German for "black-beer". Brewed to be a light bodied dark beer with a clean, crisp, refreshing finish. Its well balanced malt character is complimented with a touch of roastiness. Brewed using imported black patent malt and noble hops. Pairs with chunky dark breads, marinated meats such as brisket or German Sauerbraten. Not recommended for cellaring. Serve in a flute or pilsner glass at 45-50deg

Picked up a bottle on the sale rack at the Beer Store. I enjoyed the beer, but had a lot of roasted malt for a Shwarzbier. Poured very dark brown, almost black. Very little foam, but what did come up stayed for a while. The aroma was malty and sweet. Taste was light like a would have expected but there is a lot of roasted malt flavor which was too much for my tastes in a Schwarbier. The roasted malt also interfeared with the finish, which was not a crisp and clean as I like in a Lager beer. Almost seemed a light stout. Mouthfeel was light as expected, and I had no trouble drinking the beer. I might also suggest a new label. I really had to look at the beer bottle to see what it was. The label was dark and without a close look I could only see a very long German Word (fireman) that I could not pronounce. I only invested the effort since it was on the sale rack.

Pours near solid black, creamy tan head. Aroma is mocha, roast malt, and some grass. Taste is more rich with roast malt and vanilla. Medium thin body but good flavor. Some coffee bitter finish.

Had never seen this stuff until today. Very tasty lager and got more flavorful as it warmed up. Plan on trying some others by this brewer.

From a bomber bottle. Note: This was about a year old so it may have been slightly past its prime. Pours a dark color with a finger of head which disappeared very quickly. The aroma has some roasted malts and slight sweetness. The initial flavor is that of dark fruit sweetness and roasted malts. Some coffee is also present, though its very slight. On the aftertaste some of the noble hop profile comes through. Overall its very well balanced and a very decent dark lager.

Aroma is rich, smoky and yeasty with a nutty hint, quite appealing. It pours a deep, barely translucent sable that shows reddish brown at the bottom and has a frothy light tan head that hangs around for a bit. Flavor is spicy, malty, a little smoky with woody and caramel hints. Texture is smooth and lively, bubbly and tingly.

Bomber shared at Scottyp’s housewarming tasting. Pours a very dark brown with clear mahogany highlights and fair light tan head. Nose of roast, and oats, and fades to chocolatey tones in the flavor. Some cardboard notes come out too, but this is still a fun beer.
