Commercial Description:
Halligan RyePA is the third in our Firehouse Series. We brewed it with 25% rye malts and finished with Amarillo hops giving this beer a nice peach and sweet malt aroma balanced with citrus and pine notes.

Bomber - Pours a darkish orange amber in color with a small off-white head that faded to a thin covering over the beer. Aroma is not strong but there is some flowery hops and faint malt present. Flavor is also not that strong, but exhibits a medium hoppy bitterness with slight citrus/pine, caramel maltiness and some bready yeast. The spiciness of the rye is definite. OK, but in need of a boost in both flavor and aroma... I expect more from this brewer...

Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Clear amber, minimal head. Piney nose. Medium bodied with clean hard mouthfeel. The hard crystalmalt lacks life and the grapefruity hops are too slight to run the show on their own. Salty piney bitterness. A basic IPA without much depth.

Bottle thanks to mcox90. Pours a clear light golden color with a finger of sticky white foam. Good lacing. Spicy rye malt comes through with some more spicy hops. Taste is caramel, peppery rye, some floral hop bittering in the finish. Better than the ratings in my opinion.

Bottle from Dr. Capone. Pours clear medium copper with 2-finger off-white head and good lacing. Nose is very Wheaties-cereally-like malt, woth some hops and spicy notes. Tastes bready caramel malty, with hops and mild peppery notes. Medium body, but not great balance and not very complex. Not worth the 16 dollar price I paid.

[1821-20081022] 650mL bottle. Sweet malty yeast and mild candy aroma. Clear, light amber brown body with a quick foamy white head. Bitter yeasty hops flavour. Medium body is a little bitter. Nice, drinkable.

Bomber. Pours a medium amber- copper with a thin head. Aroma is toasted malts, light crackery stale malts, some wet paper- herbal and slightly floral tea-like English hops. Light crystal malt flavor- weak and watered down body- more tea, floral hops, wet cardboard oxidation and a weak watered down finish.

Slightly hazy amber coloured body with a copper tint and a thinnish tan head. Aroma of rye, strong malt, caramel, toffee and a touch of hops - if I didn’t see the label, I wouldn’t have known it was an IPA by the smell. Medium-bodied; Strong assertive malt and rye flavours up front with some fresh hops, nuts and caramel tucked in. Aftertaste shows some malt, rye, bitter nuts and toffee, definitely more showing as an amber ale than an IPA. Overall, not an impressive beer, and definitely not a fitting IPA. Worth trying although, especially if you aren’t from the area, since you probably won’t find this one at many other places! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 22-December-2008, sampled at home in Washington on 08-February-2009.
