Commercial Description:
Our fourth in the Firehouse Ales Series, Pompier means "fireman" in French and represents our continued commitment to celebrate and honor the men and women who respond to the call day after day. Pompier is rich and smooth with complexities that come from a huge grain bill comprised of premium imported specialty malts, French Strissel Spalt aroma hops and a 3 month aging process in oak hogsheads where it is combined with toasted French oak wood chips and champagne yeast. Pompier is intended to be a vintage quality English-Style Barleywine with a French twist. Appreciate its fine character and 12.1%ABV when we release this single 10 barrel batch sometime in December or you may choose to cellar it for many years to come.

You will find Pompier on retail shelves packaged in the same 1 Liter Swing-Top bottle that has become a signature for our specialty beers.

1 litre bottle from 5 points. nothing special here. oak aging adds some sourness that i’m not sure complements the underlying beverage.

Pours a dark amber orange with a thin lacing wispy white head. Aroma of sweet caramel toffee and light fruits with a subtle oaky whiskey character. Starts with good oily mouthfeel and sweet malt sugars with a decent mild whiskey balance that becomes more complex as it warms. Has a good citrusy bittering hop presence as well. Finishes smooth and semi-sweet hiding its alcohol very well.

Courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Pours clear copper with nice tan head. The mild aroma brings up notes of douglas fir mixing with medium to pale colored fruitiness and a bit of mustiness. The taste is interesting to say the least. I get sweet prunes and apricots before it becomes more berry like and tart. It seems a bit like a barleywine that blends into a berry like sour beer. Very interesting. I think it works well.

Bottle, courtesy jcwattsrugger. Brownish red pour, thick tan head, sticky lacing. Sharp dark fruits in the nose, some sharp metallic notes, slight chocolate. Flavor is thick licorice and dark berries, cocoa and some sticky sweet honey, and ends on a very interesting tart note. Full-bodied, complex and pretty cool.

Bottle at Tampa Crew tasting. Poured a hazy orangeish brown color. Sweet yeasty, fruity aroma. Flavor is very funky abd sweet. Theres definitely some oak in there and fruit maybe plum or cherry. Alcohol is pretty well-hidden. Didn’t care for this so much.

Bad batch I think, on tap at Dive 75 in New York. Soured. I noticed some other people commented on this, quality control issues perhaps? Wayyy too much oak accentuated by sour nastiness. I’ll try to re-rate. Aroma of oak, some decent head, but a little flat after the head settled. Some potential there I guess, but doesn’t mean much if it’s gone bad.
