Darker amber color, moderate sized head, pretty good lacing and retention. Aroma is very light for the style, there are traces of caramel and oak barrel. Some fruity notes as well, but really... there is not a lot going on here. Medium bodied, alcohol hidden surprisingly well. Overall lackluster.

Nov 26, 2009 One liter bottle thanks to Toby. I was warned that this beer was infected or somehow off, but it was actually quite nice. Pours a dark mahogany color with a small white head. The aroma is just great; bourbon, oak, dark fruit, yeast, sweet caramel. The flavor is indeed sour- dark cherries and sour vinegar-, but a large bourbon and woody sweetness provide balance, light sweet fruits and caramel. Loads of barrel, and I wonder if the champagne yeast is actually the cause of the odd tartness? I liked it, it was very complex.

Oct 25, 2009 Pours coffee amber wuth a thick. beige. pillowy head. Heavily floral aroma: lavander, cream, vanilla, spice, and hints of hops. Medium bodied with a beautifully balanced mouthfeel. Nice lacing throughout. Clean finish. Excellent barley wine.

Oct 25, 2009 (Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Dark reddish brown colour, slightly hazy, with brief beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dark berries, caramel, oak wood, rubber and earthy hops. Malty, fruity taste with dark fruit, red berries, caramel, oak wood and earthy, citrussy hops in the finish. It’s got an almost tart sourness to it, that might need some cellaring to be rounded off. Full body, not very sweet, but vinous with lots of alcohol shining through. Interesting beer, hardly balanced but complex. A couple of years in the cellar might give it a smoother balance.

Oct 21, 2009 sample from the bottle at The 2009 Great Decatur Beer Festival on 10/17/09... dark murky red color with small head... nice oak nose, along with some dark fruit... big round body... low carbonation... sweet hop presence throughout... didn’t taste the 12%...

Oct 12, 2009 A - Pours a deep copper, almost opaque, with a very thin off-white head.
S - Smells of malt and over-ripe fall fruits, very pleasant.
T - The initial taste is of a normal barleywine, decent but nothing too special. After it hits the back of the mouth the flavor becomes so dominated by the oak that nothing else can be noticed. Not enough balance.
M - Decent mouthfeel, not too thin nor too thick.
D - It’s a surprisingly light drink for such a high ABV, but the oaky aftertaste is really too much.

Sep 7, 2009 1liter bottle. 2008. deep murky garnet under a medium sized frothy tan head. lightly tart aroma with some vinous fruits and caramel malt. tart flavors. extremely fruity with lots of raspberry, cherry, strawberry flavors that would make me think it’s a fruit beer if i didn’t know better. this drinks unbelievable easy for 12.1%. creamy and medium bodied. i have no idea if i got the infected batch i heard was going around but i don’t really care. this stuff rocks!

Aug 23, 2009 Swing-top bottle generously shared by psprings. Pours a rich toffee color with an off-white head. Very hot with alcohol up front. Evidence of a barrel(s) being involved is limited. Tastes aggressively of alcohol, caramel, cherry cough syrup, and vanilla. Firewater for firemen -- I can dig it.
