| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 1, 2008 Tap - inky black with a soapy head - rather subdued, soft aroma of vanilla, caramel, and espresso beans (smells almost like a frappucino at times) - I love coffee, so this isn’t a problem for me - a tiny bit thin for a beer of this strength, and the alcohol is well-masked, making it easy to overlook until it starts going to your head - pronounced vanilla and caramelized sugar - the coffee and whiskey presence are quite hard to pick up, but are present enough to keep the beer interesting - slick, smooth mouthfeel - decent, just a bit thin. argo0 (6907), Washington DC, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2007 Courtesy Dragonstout. Pours a dark chocolate brown body with a small, foamy, light tan colored head. Intricate ribbons of lacing adorn the glass. The aroma shows big roasted malts up front, with scorched caramel, nougat, chocolate and espresso being the primary components. The flavor imparts a higher degree of complexity, with a good amount of earthy, charred oak entering the fold. The chocolate profile is diverse, ranging from light and sweet to dark and dry. Didn’t pick up much in the way of fruits or bourbon, as the commercial description suggests. Medium-full body with a very smooth consistency. Really solid brew. alobar (1020), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA
