Commercial Description:
Pozharnik is an intensely flavored Russian Imperial Stout infused with espresso that compliments its rich chocolate & roasted malt character. Pozharnik is guaranteed to warm a winter chill with its 8.1% ABV and dark fruit (raisin & plum) undertones. Notes of whiskey aromatics are brought on by the aging process in a “single barrel” whiskey cask.

Pozharnik is an intensely flavored Russian Imperial Stout infused with espresso and (vanilla beans which are new for 2007) and an improved mouthfeel that compliments its rich chocolate & roasted malt character. Pozharnik is guaranteed to warm a winter chill with it’s increased ABV now at 10%. Undertones of dark fruit (raisin & plum) and licorice with low bittering hops make this vintage beer worthy of cellaring for many years to come. Finishing notes of whiskey aromatics are once again brought on by the aging process in a “single barrel” whiskey cask.
Won a Silver Medal at the 2007 IBF.

(bottle - 1 L fliptop) Dark black pour with a creamy tan head. Aroma is sweet and roasted at the same time with lots of coffee, roasted malts, dark fruits, and some chocolate. Flavor is roasted and rather mild at the beginning with a very potent coffee followup near the end of the drink. A bit thin for an imperial stout, but quite tasty.

Pure black color. I’m getting over a cold right now, so I honestly can’t get a real good scent on this one. Tastes of coffee (obviously) and smooth malts. Doesn’t leave much of an aftertaste, which leaves me wanting more. This is a pretty good one.

Had at Hophead22’s Imperial Stout Tasting. Thanks Tim. Black with a fizzy tan head. Grain, oat, chocolate, coffee aroma. Chocolate and cereal grain taste with a dry finish.

1ltr bottle from dogfish120love, thanks Brian. Sweet, vanilla aroma, but then again this is my 15th or so impy stout today so they are running into one another. Very smooth, not much espresso flavor at all, which I like, very tasty stout.

Draft at Ron’s and bottle from Capone’s. Pours muddy blackish with slight dark brown edges anf tan head. Nose is dark malt, dark choc, heavy espresso, molasses, figs. Tastes rich, malty, with heavy choc, espresso, a mid-palate blackberry and figgy fruitiness, very slight rauch, and backup hops. Very complex. The palate is medium and waters out a bit late, but this one is very complex and a true gem. Get ya some if you can. If not, more for me.

Bottle courtesy of imagineiii. Pours a murky used engine oil brown to black with a thin yellow head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of chocolate, caramel, coffee, toffee, ripe dark fruit. Flavor is sweet and malty with ripe dark fruit, caramel, chocolate, some hints of coffee and toffee. Generally medium body with a chocolaty and malt finish. A little thin for the style, but still enjoyable.

One liter swing top bottle. Pours a black color with ruby edges when held up to the light. A vigorous pour will net a 2 finger beige head with small rings of lace. In your face aroma of whiskey and malt with some chocolate notes as well. Palate is thick and heavy. A sipper for sure. Initial flavor is quite acidic and sour. As you get into it, you get a mix of malt, chocolate, dark fruit and coffee. All with a strong whiskey background. I think this was a good effort from Pennichuck, but it does prove the point that barrel aged or cellar reserve versions are not always better than the original.

1 liter swing top bottle, 2007 edition. Pours an almost jet black (some brown around the edges) with a small off white head. No lacing to speak of. Mouthfeel is substantial and a bit oily, an improvement over 2006. Tastes of roasted malts, coffee, dark fruits, and a hint of vanilla bean, another improvement over 2006. Alcohol is present, but doesn’t hit you over the head. This probably the very best brew that I have easy access to.

Nice brew, has a nice creamy body. A nice coffee taste, more of a coffee taste then expresso, little hint of dark fruit blended in as well, a nice brew.
