Commercial Description:
Pozharnik is an intensely flavored Russian Imperial Stout infused with espresso that compliments its rich chocolate & roasted malt character. Pozharnik is guaranteed to warm a winter chill with its 8.1% ABV and dark fruit (raisin & plum) undertones. Notes of whiskey aromatics are brought on by the aging process in a “single barrel” whiskey cask.

Pozharnik is an intensely flavored Russian Imperial Stout infused with espresso and (vanilla beans which are new for 2007) and an improved mouthfeel that compliments its rich chocolate & roasted malt character. Pozharnik is guaranteed to warm a winter chill with it’s increased ABV now at 10%. Undertones of dark fruit (raisin & plum) and licorice with low bittering hops make this vintage beer worthy of cellaring for many years to come. Finishing notes of whiskey aromatics are once again brought on by the aging process in a “single barrel” whiskey cask.
Won a Silver Medal at the 2007 IBF.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a tan dark head. Big espresso nose, lightly bitter chocolate, sweet malt, light whiskey and oak. Dark fruity esters plums and raisins. Chewy alcohol latent fruit and coffee bitterness. Complex and would probably age well. Good brew.

On tap. A sweet, smooth coffee stout. Not much aroma. I would like to try a bottle someday.

A very yummy Russian. I notice strong notes of vanilla more than anything. Rich and thick. Hides alcohol well. I think this is the same beer as the main Pozharnik entry.

1 Liter Swing-Top Bottle: Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, light bitter coffee, light wood, a slight vanilla sweetness, and a hint of cream. Poured black in color with a large, creamy, dense beige head that diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of roasted malts, chocolate, tar, coffee, wood, chocolate malt (like in a Whopper), and slight tobacco. Medium to full body. Thick, viscous texture becomes a bit chalky. Average carbonation. Malty, chocolate, slight wood finish is moderately dry. Not the slightest hint of the 10%ABV.

Bottle: Pours a pitch black color, not much head or lacing, but ample carbonation for the style. The nose is sweet, full of grape and unbrewed espresso grind. A huge chocolate and roast note along with the huge oaky vanilla note. Very dessert-ish, like a chocolate cake with kalua, but still balanced and roasty. The tiramisu of beer? More dark fruits; fig, raisin and vanilla, in the flavor with a light astringency in the tail to balance everything out. Sweet cherry and cocoa in the tail. So sweet and decadent. Thanks so much Jake for leaving me this to sample. I did not know what I was missing. Cheers!

Big ole 1Liter swing top from mcox90, thanks man. Pours a deep, dark brown with a modest brown head. Aroma is rich of roast and espressoo and a little bit of sweet caramelized sugar. Rich flavor is smooth with a huge espresso backbone. Light amounts of chocolate and vanilla come through. A little hint of bourbon, but plays a small role. This was quite enjoyable.

Poured a nice black hue with a brown head that had no retention. It looked a little on the thin side, probably from aging in a barrel. Nice rich aroma with notes of leather, alcohol, and some vanilla. Flavor was rich with malty notes but also had a great oak character. Finish was smooth yet watery. Still good though.

1 L Bottle shared at tasting. Pours a nice black color with a medium tan head. Smell is chocolatey and fudge like malt. Taste is chocolate, fudge and soy sauce with rich flavor all around. Some light notes of coffee as well, but I didnt get any whiskey or barrel aging character from it. Good, rich mouthfeel and a nice chalky bitterness in the end. Good beer.
