Commercial Description:
Shouboushi means "firefighter" in Japanese and is a Pilsner with an addition of fresh ginger root. Brewed using imported Pilsner & Carapilsner malts and imported noble hops including Hallertau and Czech Saaz. Extremely clean and crisp with a noticeable ginger aroma and refreshing taste. Pairs well with spicey Japanese foods and flavorful German dishes. Not recommended for cellaring. SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Serve in a flute, pilsner glass or stein at 40-45 degrees F.

Pours with a deep golden body topped by a thin to medium thick head with some lacing. It’s slightly sweet yet hoppy with notes of grass and a light ginger note. The nose is rather weak. Light bodied, smooth yet well carbonated.

(Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm, 27 March 2009) Golden colour leaning in the amber direction. Frothy, white head. Malty, spicy nose with distinct notes of fresh ginger and grassy hops. Malty, spicy taste with fresh ginger, bread, and a nice grassy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, fairly dry. Nice balance between the fresh ginger (which never takes over) and the grassy hops. Well made, fresh and tasty.

Bottle (22oz). Shared with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and tupalev. Hazy gold with a small drizzle of white head. Grassy and tangy aroma - I guess that’s ginger - very delicate malt and some heather softness. The taste is similar, perhaps more pungently grassy, but some light unpleasant plastic character (warm garden hose) emerges as it warms. Everything about the palate is average - body, carbonation, linger ..... not that bad, really.

Thanks to HogTownHarry. Appearance: Orange/yellow with a small white head. Aroma: Cinnamon, ginger, heather, a lot of sweetness. Flavour: Ginger with yeast and vanilla, light but tangy. Not bad.

2009-03-20. Golden yellow with a small white head that fades quickly. Mil aroma of muted ginger, pale malts. Flavour is similarly mild, modest ginger presence over muted pale malts, slightly doughy bready character. Average to thin palate. Pretty meh, but could pair nicely with some sushi. Again, I think this is the right beer (I hate being the first one to enter ratings from a tasting!!!). Ginger and saaz hop aroma. Dark yellow, small white head. Good taste - refreshing ginger - thin but tasty and works well with the base pils. Not bad really!

22 oz bomber. Golden coloured beer, thin white head. Aroma is more pilsner than ginger. Fairly standard grainy aroma. There is a kiss of herbal/floral hoppiness on the back. Lightly sweet flavour with a touch of gingery spiciness toward the back. Pretty decent, if a bit typical. Nice balance, but I was expecting more ginger from a beer with ginger in the name.

Bomber. Cloudy gold with a small head. Flavor is on the sweet side with a candied ginger and vanilla flavor.Decent stuff, nothing too exciting.
