Commercial Description:
Shouboushi means "firefighter" in Japanese and is a Pilsner with an addition of fresh ginger root. Brewed using imported Pilsner & Carapilsner malts and imported noble hops including Hallertau and Czech Saaz. Extremely clean and crisp with a noticeable ginger aroma and refreshing taste. Pairs well with spicey Japanese foods and flavorful German dishes. Not recommended for cellaring. SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Serve in a flute, pilsner glass or stein at 40-45 degrees F.

Bottle thanks to mcox90. Color is a pale golden yellow with a thin white soapy head. Aroma is of course ginger and light pils malts, some grassiness. Taste is more ginger, but not overpowering, otherwise is a nice grassy, earthy hay pilsner.

Bottle shared by emacgee... thanks, Ethan! Clear golden brown pour with white head. Not surprisingly, ginger was the main aroma and dominant. It was a little bit softer on the palate, but not much. A bit one note and novelty, but not bad.

I am very impressed with this beer. I’m a suprised at how good it is and how fast I am drinking it. It really is a great Pilsner body and taste. The ginger finish is light and refreshing. Not something I’d typically drink and may never drink again. Goes well with cheese also.

22 oz bottle poured a light amber color with a one finger frothy white head. aroma has ginger, perfume, candy sugar, and an almost mint like sharpness. mouth feel is average and the flavor is predominately ginger. some muted hops kick about and there is some light bitterness. this just does not seem to come together well for me.

Hazy golden-bronze. The aroma is mainly of pickled ginger and ginger beer. Somewhat spicy, with more bitterness than expected. Fairly thin on the malts. Not terribly well-balanced. I’m sure this idea could be done better.

Deep golden with a slight haze. Ginger ale aroma is pure with fresh ginger root and light fruitiness. Low carbonation, thin palate and thin finish. Not a bad brew but too light-bodied to carry the ginger flavors and integrate them into the malts. Basically, bland.

Bottle shared by emacgee - thanks, Ethan! Pour was a dark orange, a bit dull and hazy in a way that didn’t promise much for a style that should be crisp and lively. Sharp aroma of ginger, but almost as if it were ginger confection rather than the authentic goods. The flavor is blandly spicy, and the mouthfeel thin. Not so hot.

Bottle shared by Ethan. Thanks bud. Predictably, the ginger dominated this one in the nose and the flavor is muddled and weak.. Missing some carbonation and crisp and spritzy like qualities. Just okay.
