Commercial Description:
Shouboushi means "firefighter" in Japanese and is a Pilsner with an addition of fresh ginger root. Brewed using imported Pilsner & Carapilsner malts and imported noble hops including Hallertau and Czech Saaz. Extremely clean and crisp with a noticeable ginger aroma and refreshing taste. Pairs well with spicey Japanese foods and flavorful German dishes. Not recommended for cellaring. SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Serve in a flute, pilsner glass or stein at 40-45 degrees F.

Thanks jcwattsrugger. Pours a copper amber with some haze and an almost nonexistent head. The nose shows an earthy gingery character, spice predominant, some malt sweetness in the background. The flavor is spicy upfront, ginger, tad thin and watery on the mouth. Some bite to it.

Bottled at Akkurat, Stockholm. Cloudy deep golden, small but fairly firm head. Spicy hops up front with just a touch of ginger. Dry and crisp with marked spicy hops as it’s most prominent feature. There’s notes of grainy bread before a finish with medium bitterness. A really refreshing well made pilsener with a twist.

Bottle: Pours a slightly hazy orange with a white film of head. The aroma is of cheap/sweet pale malts, papery oxidized suggestions and only a touch of nondescript spiciness. Light bodied. Sweet papery flavor- notes of cheap pale malts with no real ginger presence. Not crisp or clean like a quality Pilsner. Mild peppery noble hop notes in the back. A disappointing beer.

Appearance: Pours a hazy, pale gold body with a thin, wispy, white head. Smell: Pilsner malt aroma with floral, spicy hops and some sliced ginger root. Also, there’s a distant vegetal note, like a nearby opened bag of cole slaw mix. Taste: Crisp pils maltiness with a light sweetness and hint of grain. The taste of ginger is present, but it definitely comes up short and leaves one wanting. Very, very small hint of veggies. Slight Noble hop component with a light bitterness. Finishes dry with a lingering touch of graininess. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-high carbonation. Drinkability: A bit disappointing. It is neither a great pilsner nor is it a good ginger-based brew. Take the ginger addition and PUMP IT UP and you may just have something.

Bomber from alldaydrinker. Nose is grainy wheat, grassy and floral hops, and a general good pilsener nose along with some background ginger spiciness. hazy copper with a medium, glass lacing, pale yellow head. Flavor has the ginger showing up more prominently, with some light bitterness, caramel, and grain. Finish is a nice lingering light bitterness. Nicely spicy pils, I could drink this every day.

Hard corn, malt, and medium wet paper on the aroma. Dark copper pour with tight head and lace. Medium maltiness and a light bitter. Medium bodied, fizzy, a tad thin, and no ginger(at least that is what Gilligan said)
