Commercial Description:
Shouboushi means "firefighter" in Japanese and is a Pilsner with an addition of fresh ginger root. Brewed using imported Pilsner & Carapilsner malts and imported noble hops including Hallertau and Czech Saaz. Extremely clean and crisp with a noticeable ginger aroma and refreshing taste. Pairs well with spicey Japanese foods and flavorful German dishes. Not recommended for cellaring. SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Serve in a flute, pilsner glass or stein at 40-45 degrees F.

Richmond Summer Gathering. Bomber courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Clear golden amber with a slight white head. Grainy nose, I got a vegetal note, but I was in the minority. Grainy flavor, some caramel - um, ginger? I have none. Eh.

Bottle at the Williamsburg Gathering courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Soft amber pour with a small head. Nose is surprisingly lacking in ginger. Some fruit and caramel, and grains in the aroma. Taste is grainy with caramel, light ginger, some fruit and sweet malts. Body is medium with soft carbonation. Finish is more caramel, fruit, sweet malts, and soft ginger. Not really much to this but I can see where this would pair well with Asian food.

22 oz. bottle shared by jcwattsrugger at the 2008 Richmond Summer Gathering in Williamsburg. Thanks John! Golden pour with almost no head. Fruity aroma with apple notes. Dry, slightly herbal taste. The ginger is almost noticeable here, but comes across as a more generic herbal note. Medium bodied.

bottle form mcox90: pours a clear ambber honey colour witha soapy looking white head. great aroma of ginger and slight toasted grains, good sweet malts and good floralness. flavour is interesting full of earthy ginger, not spicey at all with a good balance of malts then plenty of grains and a touch of bitterness in the finish

Sample at the 2008 VT Brewers Fest - Poured a very clear light amber in color with a foamy white head that faded quickly. Some lacing. Aroma is slightly hoppy with only the barest hint of ginger. Flavor is mildly hoppy with a decent amount of malt mixed in. Slightly sweet at the end with the ginger only really showing up in the aftertaste. Interesting...
