Commercial Description:
A classic example of an ESB, where sweetness of the barley malt balances the slight bitterness provided by the Target and Golding hops. We add East Kent Goldings during secondary fermentation; this process of "dry-hopping" provides a distinct, flowery aroma to the beer. At our Greenfield Pub and Restaurant we serve this copper colored ale cask conditioned. Original Gravity: 1057

Wow very good. malt and toffee aroma, and full flavor of the same. Rich, creamy, with a subtle hops presence. Also a slight sour taste that is very nice. Excellent beer.

NERAX ’02 cask: Heavy malt flavor that was covered by a great hoppiness. No head, dark orange color, syrupy-watery texture, nice and bitter. My favorite at Wed-Thurs NERAX ’02.

22oz bottle purchased from a People’s Pint tasting at Bauer Wines in Boston. Pour is a slightly hazy copper with little carbonation or head. Very nice aroma of floral hops. Taste is wonderful - hoppy but well-balanced. Very pleasant. I preferred the ESB over the IPA at the tasting.

The initial pour starts with soda-like large bubbles, but minute bubbles come up from the bottom and replace the big ones as they pop. The settled head is only a single layer thick. The lace is minimal. The color of the brew is solid brown and hazy--light glows through the glass. Chocolate and caramel aromas; light floral hop in the background. Somewhat earthy. Think: Highly hopped brown ale. Great balance. Powerful darker malts (crystal and chocolate?) are strong but still offset by the bitter hop. Not a delicate beer--full flavored and full bodied. The aftertaste is a long lasting hop pellet.

Well made and very smooth ESB. I had this on cask at the brewery and it went down real easy. Hops on the nose and tongue, but what really made this special was just the supersmooth taste and lingering hop aftertaste. Wow. Nice job.

Cask at the brewpub. Amber in color with a little head. Aroma is fruity and hoppy. Malty flavor. Slight caramel notes. Finish is hoppy. Well balanced. Enjoyable.

Light amber color with an appropriate sized hed. Aroma is a bit subdued with some dough and wheat. Taste is balanced nicely with the malt just a bit ahead. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Hops are herbal and chewy.

Cask at the brewpub.Reddish orange, tannish head. Slight hop and fruit nose, with a hint of licorice. Malt dominates with a hint of carmel. Sharp hop finish. The hops build through the pint and bring balance.
