Bottle #73 purchased somewhere in Massachusets, I think, on my way to EBF 2009. Boy am I bummed I wasted gas transporting this dud back to NJ. Poured a flat lifeless black body with some slight oily coating power but zero head. Aroma is complex but not really good, chocolate, cola, grass, molassess, dark fruit and licorice. Burnt roasty flavor of chocolate syrup, charcoal and vegtables. This was one lousy Impy, more like a Gimpy Stout.

Bottle #73 thanks to Dmac. Pours out black with no head, only by swirling the glass do you get any traces of some lacing. Aroma is of some roast, molasses, licorice, burnt sugar and maybe some smoky earthy notes. Taste is burnt roast, licorice, molasses, dark fruit, some smoke and a little alcohol. Lots of flavors going on, but lacking balance.

10th rating lets make this official. 2007 12oz bottle number 539. Bottle via trade with Tweety. Poured into my reidel snifter. Pours black with a light brown ring of a head. Nose is sweet and rich with a big roasty malt and dark fruit nose. Taste is sweet and rich and chocolaty. The mouthfeel is chewy and there is a tobacco woody, slightly smoky , and overall very rich. Can’t say this is as good as the espresso yeti I had last night, but this is a superb imperial stout.

Cask sample. Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Smells of roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate. Tastes lightly bitter with a nice layered malt profile.

Poured an opaque black color with a thin, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, cocoa, smoke, vanilla, molasses, and light alcohol. Taste of roasted malts, sweet, chewy chocolate, dark fruits, charred wood, tobacco, and light alcohol in the finish.

12 oz. bottle - big thanks to Tweety for trading me this tasty brew; jet black, oily and no head; very strong aromas of bourbon, oak, vanilla, plums, and coffee; killer nose; oily texture leaves plenty around the glass; dry finish with tons of coffee in the flavors; slightly hot, but very drinkable; wow, a great beer; thanks Paul!!

12 oz bottle, 2008. Pours do an obsidian color with a thick, 2 finger tan head. Smells of mocha, espresso and earth right off the bat. Some molasses in there as well. I agree with the previous rater -- smells almost oily. This is a viscous beer! Thick, oily and creamy on the palate. A deep candied cherry flavor comes out along with the mocha/chocolate flavor. A bit of smokiness in there, near, but not quite a tobacco flavor. Smooth finish with a bit of lingering heat. Impressive beer and the best Ive tried from Peoples Pint.

12-oz. Thanks, SuzyGreenBerg! Great impy. Pours jet black, looks oily and thick in the glass. Scantest rubied highlights at the edges. Very slim and loose sudsy tan head. Plenty of dark pitted tree fruit on the nose, along with molasses and backing chocolate. Dense, oily, slick body that feels like you’re going to need to brush your teeth for an hour after you drink a little of this stuff. Fruits, chocolate, and some dark toast come along for the mid-palate. Long sharp finish. Great effort.
