This is a very popular winter beer, big and roasty and slightly sweeter than Broadfork. Served cask conditioned and soon to be out in bottles.

Bottle courtesy of Sammy: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice foamy head with some good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of dry coffee is dominating. Taste is a mix between some dry coffee with some light roasted bitter malt. Body is about average with some good carbonation. Well done apart from the fact that it might be a bit too dry.

Appearance: Pours a deep, dark brown body with a small, tan-colored head. Smell: Dark chocolate and notes of roasty coffee nearly lost to the angry, raging diacetyl butter scent. This bottle should include links to various Diacetyl Lung Disease websites. Taste: Sure, there’s some chocolate and there’s even some roasty notes, but the x-treme diacetyl problem has turned this beer into a butter liqueur. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Tongue-coating mouthfeel. Drinkability: Who knows, there might just be a decent beer beneath the glaring diacetyl problem.

Pours a mostly opaque with a thin, spotty-lacing dark tan head. Aroma has perhaps the most diacetyl I’ve ever smelled in a beer or in a bag or microwave popcorn along with some mild roasty chocolate notes. Body is coated with slick oily diacetyl and some milk chocolate with a touch of sweetness, just dripping in popcorn butter. Just do a diacetyl rest and this beer would probably be pretty good, but right now, it’s damn near undrinkable.

Good lord what a diacetyl problem. This is one of the most diacetyly beers EVER. I can’t even get past in in the taste. This is seriously buttery. Blech.

(Rating #1226)

My Bottom Line:
This healthy Oatmeal Stout provides ample coffee atop the roasted caramel, building an effortlessly drinkable, although perhaps sweet example.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam protects the blackness.
-Dark chocolate also accompanies the coffee roastiness.
-The body is healthy on tap, but I admit the bottle was a little thinner than was to be expected from the full and creamy nose.
-Carbonation is comfortable and serves the flavor profile adequately.
-The tap version gave me a blast of caramel sweetness in the nose.

From the bottle (3.5) and from the tap (3.1).

This was well worth the trip....smooth flavors of chocolate and roasted coffee. I was expecting something a little heaver, but that was ok b/c im drinking it in the summer, so it was perfect. this is definetly a pint for the people.
