Deep golden amber beer. Aroma of wildflower honey. Very floral on the nose with a light fruitiness backing it up. A hint of apple and wheaty spice in the nose as well. Flavour is super strange, honey, apple and herbal sage flavour. Light sourness with a spiciness as well. Ethanolic peppery character on the back. Minty, floral and honeyish. Very sweet, but not very good.

Bottle: Deep golden hazy honey-ish color. Sweet aroma with loads of honey, and an herbal tea character. The flavor is chaotic. Lots of sweetness clashes with herbs and spices like sage dryness and a flowery finish. Seems like Chamomile tea; not enjoyable.

Date: 4/28/2007
Event: DarkLord Day 2007
Location: Three Floyds Brewing Co. Parking Lot
Serving: Sampled from a growler.

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Honey spice and evergreen(?).
Appearance: Transparent, light orange color; still.
Flavor: Sweet alcohol flavor and some vanilla. Lots of floral overtones.
Palate: Somewhat thin.
Overall: An interesting Braggot to say the least. Maybe a bit more malt is need in this one to help balance out some of the wildflower honey characteristics and give it a bit more body...

Growler @ DLD: Pours an orange color with a tiny white head. Aroma, light apples and honey. Flavor, sweet, some spices, honey, and lots of floral and citrusy notes.

Sampled from a growler at DLD. Pours a clear orange with a small white head. Candi sugars and sour notes come out in the nose. Sweet candi sugars, floral, and a bit of citrus compile on my tongue and I wonder why. This one is strange.

Sampled from a growler at DLD - Pours light amber with a short white head. Aromas of flowers, and maybe a little honey. Flavor is really just basically like drinking a flowerbed honestly. Honey notes there but really it is mostly floral. Palate is thin and watery. Odd to say the least.

Bomber from Julios - hazy strawberry blonde with lots of fizz, but very little head - very sweet, honey, mead-like aroma (I say mead-like because I don’t really think this is a mead), with notes of rose and grain - the carbonation is abrasive at first, but mellows out once the beer has been sitting - quite tart and acidic up front, with a dry, cider-like character - this is followed by some grain/wheat and sweet honey flavors - a bit more grain and an alcohol burn at the finsh, along with some wine grapes and a lighty, malt-like flavor - this stuff doesn’t know if it wants to be a mead, a cider, or a beer - as a result, the palate doesn’t know what to do with it, either.

From a 22 oz bomber. This is a very strange brew indeed, but I’d hardly call it a mead in any way, shape or form. At least not other than the super-sweetness from a bunch of honey. What is most striking is the strong berry flavor - raspberries, Robitussin-like cherries abound. Actually, it reminds me a lot of cough syrup. Despite the sweetness, the finish is surprisingly dry and tart, much like a decent lambic. Slightly hazy, dark orange body, with a very small bubbly head. Lots of bubbles sticking to the sides of the glass as well. The high alcohol content isn’t really that obvious. Interesting. I’m not sure if it really works, but it may grow on me over time.
