Liberty Peppermint Stout

Had on tap at Liberty 01/10/2008. This brew is basically their Oatmeal Stout with a bunch of peppermint extract added. The stout part of the beer is fantastic. Roasty with baker’s chocolate notes, and deeply bitter. Nice looking brew as well with a thick rocky tan head. I’m on the fence about the peppermint. It smelled great, not unlike an Andes Thin Mint candy, and tasted much the same, but the bitterness of the stout seemed to clash with the mintyness. Perhaps a more lightly hopped version of the stout would have melded better.
