Commercial Description:
Miner Mishap is our version of a traditional German Schwarzbier, also known as "Black Pilsner" or simply "Black Lager". Our traditional version was formulated by our friend William Scott (or Scotty as he’s known around the brewery), an award-winning homebrewer and certified beer judge who has always been very generous about sharing his creations and his seemingly unlimited knowledge of beer. It seemed only fitting that since we started out as a homebrewery, we would try and recreate one of Scotty’s homebrews (which are typically 5 or 10 gallon batched) here in our 15 barrel 鸑 gallon) brewhouse. Brewed almost entirely with malt imported from Weyermann Specialty Malts in Bamberg, Germany and hopped with Imported German Perle and Hallertaur Mittlefreu hops, Miner Mishap is truly a one-of-a-kind original.

(Bottle, courtesy of Swalden_28) Pours a brown body with a medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla, molasses, and maple. Flavor of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, and a quite displeasing buttery taste (DMS).

(Bottle) Pours a dark cola color with a small amount of brown head. Dusty aroma of cocoa, roasted dark malts and light coffee. Taste includes roasted malts. At times, the beer takes on a bitter or astringent quality. Dry chocolate and roasted toffee notes dominate the flavor. Average sweetness and carbonation for the style. Could use a little more body though. I thought this was a pretty good brew.

Faint roasted nose, with hints of sugar and chocolate. Pours a dark brown, with some light able to get through, with a tight light tan head. Floral hops are the predominant flavor, with hints of roast, and a bit of pine in the finish. Light mouthfeel, with heavier carbonation then I was expecting. Quite a tasty beer.

This beer came in my beer club. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured black with a small brown head that faded quickly. The aroma was bitter, roasty and had an undertone of Baker’s chocolate and a touch of fruity and floral hops. Somewhat faint on the nose but interesting. The flavor was bitter, roasty, toasty and had a moderate port wine element with light fruity and floral hops throughout. The finish was medium length roasty and bitter. The body was a bit watery. Decent.
