| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 8, 2008 As was said before, this one poured chocolate brown with a quickly fading tan head. The chocolate and raisins were predominant in the nose and taste along with a slightly oily roast. Virtually no hops. It went down well and is a good dessert beer, even for a lager. It has a lot of body for a lager. mcbackus (756), Merritt Island, Florida, USA

Sweet chocolate malt aroma. Taste is sweet and malty. A sweeter swarzbier than I normally like, but not bad. Cable (286), SE, Oklahoma, USA

My favorite from Choc, with the BDG a close second. It’s not often one can sample a bottle-conditioned black lager in middle America, so here’s your chance - and an excellent example of the style. Light smoke, dry roastiness with a crisp, clean finish. unclemike (833), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA

Pours a very attractive deep black color with a nice looking tan head that disappears a little too quick Mouth feel was medium-to-thin and even a bit of dryness in the end. Was not impressed. Label tells a nic elittle story.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 16, 2008 Beer of the Month Club Selection: Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. Pour produced a dark brown body, opaque, with spent yeast sediment, topped with a small, tan, quickly diminishing head. Chocolate maltiness in the aroma, though a bit light on the nose. Flavor is bittersweet, with a light-medium body, and crisp carbonation. This Schwarz has a bit of dryness and bitterness on the palate, with low aftertaste. The finish is a little underwhelming (watery) though not too bad. I’d drink it again :) keepersj12 (824), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA
