Commercial Description:
Miner Mishap is our version of a traditional German Schwarzbier, also known as "Black Pilsner" or simply "Black Lager". Our traditional version was formulated by our friend William Scott (or Scotty as he’s known around the brewery), an award-winning homebrewer and certified beer judge who has always been very generous about sharing his creations and his seemingly unlimited knowledge of beer. It seemed only fitting that since we started out as a homebrewery, we would try and recreate one of Scotty’s homebrews (which are typically 5 or 10 gallon batched) here in our 15 barrel 鸑 gallon) brewhouse. Brewed almost entirely with malt imported from Weyermann Specialty Malts in Bamberg, Germany and hopped with Imported German Perle and Hallertaur Mittlefreu hops, Miner Mishap is truly a one-of-a-kind original.

Murky very dark brown with a thin head. Dusty cocoa and caramel aroma. Sweet and tangy with a chalkiness. Thin body. Has some astringency and a rough bitterness. Finishes on the sour side.

Black color......opaque. Thin head. Bold aroma of malt, with a few floral notes. Very sweet front, with bitter flavors that break through......overly crisp mouthfeel. Back has a sharp bitter taste. Poorly balanced.

mediocre at best, poured a watery looking black color with hardly any head. Aroma had some roasted malty notes and very mild smoke notes. Flavor was on the watery side. Some malt notes with nothing that really stuck out at me.

Bottle with the Choc label; poured a dark cola brown with very little, off white head. Aroma of chocolate, molasses, and fruit. Fouind the aroma to be solid, but a tad strange. Flavor was severely hampered by a trio of bad elements; watery and fizzy palate, with some astringency. Finish of the beer is tasteless and nasty and the same time. A bit weird. Not very roasted or chocolatey at all either. I think the last word of the name sums up this beer well.

Bottle. Pours a deep murky brown. Very little head. Muted roasty aroma. Taste starts off alright with roastiness, light cocoa & chocolate but finishes with some strange awkwardness.. Thin body & mouthfeel & almost seems like a watered down scharzbier.

Bummer. Looks sexy, but it’s too watery. This Malt of the Earth newsletter says a whole bunch of awesome stuff about this one, aight, but it’s talking about hints of chocolate and coffee and dark fruits and bunny rabbit and buttered corn on the cob, and flamin hot cheetos, but I’m not getting anything. Little chalky and bitter on the finish.

120z bottle thanks to BeerTracker (BA site). Pours dark brown to black with a tan head. The nose had some roasty malt but was overwhelmed by vinegar. Ugh! Did not like the aroma. Taste too was of roast malt and some nuts, but still too much oily vinegar. Blech! Mouthfeel was medium-to-thin and even a bit of dryness in the end. Was not impressed.
