Commercial Description:
Miner Mishap is our version of a traditional German Schwarzbier, also known as "Black Pilsner" or simply "Black Lager". Our traditional version was formulated by our friend William Scott (or Scotty as he’s known around the brewery), an award-winning homebrewer and certified beer judge who has always been very generous about sharing his creations and his seemingly unlimited knowledge of beer. It seemed only fitting that since we started out as a homebrewery, we would try and recreate one of Scotty’s homebrews (which are typically 5 or 10 gallon batched) here in our 15 barrel 鸑 gallon) brewhouse. Brewed almost entirely with malt imported from Weyermann Specialty Malts in Bamberg, Germany and hopped with Imported German Perle and Hallertaur Mittlefreu hops, Miner Mishap is truly a one-of-a-kind original.

Sampled from bottle and draft at the brewery. My favorite from Choc, with the BDG a close second. It’s not often one can sample a bottle-conditioned black lager in middle America, so here’s your chance - and an excellent example of the style. Light smoke, dry roastiness with a crisp, clean finish.

Dark opaque brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma and flavor of chocolate and caramel malts. Finish is dry and milky.

As was said before, this one poured chocolate brown with a quickly fading tan head. The chocolate and raisins were predominant in the nose and taste along with a slightly oily roast. Virtually no hops. It went down well and is a good dessert beer, even for a lager. It has a lot of body for a lager.

Red-brown, thin but creamy khaki tan cover. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, some coffee, light fruit. Taste is more berries, coffee, roast, sweet but bitter finish. Nice beer, best of the Pete’s Place bunch by a mile.

On tap. Poured a very dark brown/ black with a very thick creamy head. Roasted malt flavor, with a heavy mouthfeel. Slight sourness, but barely noticeable this time as compared to last year.

Thanks Steve for the bottle of this. Simple beer here, chocolate and dark fruit, with a tinge of smoke. No roast detected which is usually typical for this style. Nothing super interesting, yet highly quaffable.

Bottle from Soonah; Nose of chocolate, with caramelized sugar and a light coffe note; clear dark brown with a big straw head; flavor has coffee, molasses, a little hop bitterness, and some peppery spiciness. Not as good as Black Bavarian but quite a good one!
