Years ago when microbrews were becoming more available, this seemed a better selection. As the quality and availabilty of microbrews has exploded, it simply doesn’t stand up. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 20, 2008 THOUGHTS: I hadn’t had this one in years. The last tim I did, it seemed like an extreme beer. Now I like it more than I did then, but it seems really bland compared to most of the beers I drink now. But I am surprised this doesn’t have a bigger following. It’s a lot better than Sam Adam’s Boston Lager and Yuengling without being too extreme for the masses. If it had better marketing this beer could be huge.
TECHNICAL: Bottle Poured a clear, medium reddish brown with a small, fizzy, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was moderate to heavy dark bread, burnt, nutty and caramel malts and light hops. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was moderate to heavily sweet, lightly acidic and moderately better and just slightly sour with an average duration. There was great caramel, burnt and nutty malt, but then the flavor drops off a bit with only a little burnt flavor and some hops. The light to medium body had very fizzy carbonation and a metallic and very light astringent finish. patrick820 (69), San Luis Obispo, California, USA
