Aroma of fruity malt with some mild hops. Pretty bland malty flavour, a little nutty with very little hops. Thin bodied. Pretty boring, average at best. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 25, 2006 Amber with a light sweet malty aroma. Flavour is more of the same, nothing wicked going on here but it’s drinkable. weepingsuds (222), Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 19, 2006 Reddish brown with a quickly fading tan head. Dark malt and spicey hops in the nose. Same in the flavor. Raisen, apricot, & chocolate. Finishes smooth, flavor leaves you quickly. Its ok. Capa (975), Yokosuka, Japan

Aroma is caramel and sweet with malt and some hops. Flavor is sweet with light hops and some fruit. Nothing complex here, just a decent, readily available brown ale tupalev (2617), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 1, 2006 Bottle. Clear dark ruby red, very little head. Slight earthy hop and fruit (cherry) in mild aroma. Taste features mild hops up front followed by a cherry like sweetness. Feels a little flat. Surprisingly though, it is tasty and not too bad despite the lackluster sum of its parts. A weird brown ale that I ultimately enjoyed, but I don’t see a need to have another. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 31, 2006 Bottle (12oz). Poured clear mahogany with a smallish quick-diminishing off-white foamy head. Sweet aroma of slightly vegetal grainy light roast malt, vaguely caramel, chocolate toffee and a hint of sour fruit. Taste is ... ah, grain, nutty light roast malt, nothing much really, but pleasant enough and not vegetal or chemically. Mouthfeel is thick, syrupy but a little flat - it has a bit of maple syrup aftertaste going on - dessert beer? GG (1640), NorCal, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 31, 2006 While this is better than the regular swill you find in the stores, it just don’t compare to some of the better beers out, even if you can’t get to a really good beer distributor. You always see this one in the store cooler, and I’d just rather avoid it and anything they make. Newcastle is a MUCH better representation of a Brown Ale and can be just as available. It’s a balanced beer, not commited to any hops or malt extremes, just a beer than is sort of bland.
