Although, on the bottle they claim that it is an ale???? Come on, your a brewer and you don’t even know that an Octoberfest is a lager by definition?!?! In any case this is definitely one of America’s best Octoberfests, far better than Victory’s, Sam Adam’s or Saranac’s. Big and heady with a very good backbone. Flavor is nice and the beer is very drinkable. Nutty and malty with a fine aftertaste. morty99 (371), Maryland, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 10, 2002 Clear copper. Thin, fizzy light tan head. Slight carbonation. Mild aroma of toasty, nutty malts and light fruit wisps. Crisp yet smooth and rather full. Toasty sweet malts. No noticeable adjunct flavor. Medium airy body. Little hop balance except a faint bite on the tongue prior to the aftertaste. Flavor fades as it sits and warms. Blandness wavers in and out. Finishes richer and not as crisp as it should be. Touch of dry nuttiness as well. Nothing special but OK for a mass(ively) produced version. BillKismet (1956), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 7, 2002 Updated: Oct 11, 2003Highly carbonated with a red tinted amber body and a tiny head that quickly dissapears. Medium bodied in mouthfeel, but characterized by a light roasting. Easy on the palate--no noticeable burntness. This beer has a macro feel, but with some degree of craftmanship. Rerate: Slightly soapy flavor, estery, but on the verge of being decent. AxeMaster221 (343), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Sep 7, 2002 Once upon a time, Pete’s was a good regional brewery. Then they sold out to a bigger company, and the quality went away. What happened? Did they change the recipies, cheapen the ingredients, or shorten the brewing time to meet the demands of expansion? Not sure, but this is now bland, boring, uninspired beer. So many better Octoberfest beers out there......the only reason to drink this is to say you have, so you won’t have to again. jpm8920 (152), Park Ridge, New Jersey, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 1, 2002 Re-Rate 09/01/02: 2002 version: Clear deep copper color, the head is average, the lace is decent, both are beige in color. Nose is malt, and a bit nutty sweet as is the front. Top is light, the finish is lightly acidic, a tad dry, nice hop presence, a good clean and fresh seasonal, that is well worth looking for as a late summer session beer. Ranks #612 overall in my current 1000 beer list.
