beerbill (1248), Laurel, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy bright gold with a moderate white head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass. Light aroma of grassy hops and citrus. To be specific, the citrus reminded me of Sprite. The flavor is very weak malt up front followed by a wash of lightly sweet Sprite. Light bitterness at the finish. Thin, watery mouthfeel. Dull and uninteresting. Yet another winner from the folks at Matt.
DarkElf (2650), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 28, 2008 25-Aug-08 (12-oz bottle: Free sample bottle for stewarding the 2008 World Beer Cup in San Diego, CA) Hey, free beer is free beer, even when it’s Rally Cap Ale. And actually, I’m glad I found this in one of my mystery boxes because I expected a throw-away, but really, this beer isn’t that bad, and I suspect the bottle I tasted four years ago was probably a bit on the old side. The beer was entered into the Golden or Blonde Ale category, and it fits quite well. Grainy, lightly sweet malts are first balanced in the entry by a touch of hops, and then in the evolution by light citrus, but the malt carries the beer into the finish, tasting a bit corny and showing a trace of oxidative doughiness. Not enough to ruin the beer though, so in the end, this beer tastes okay. The nose is mostly malty, a little grainy and bready, slightly sweet-smelling and gently citrusy, but no hops. Smooth and easy on the palate with soft, moderate carbonation, it’s content to not challenge the palate in any way, and for the intended audience, that’s okay. Dark-golden in color with perfect clarity and a smattering of tiny carbonation bubbles rising slowly through the beer. The inch-tall head pours off-white in color and gradually subsides to a thin but complete layer while leaving small patches of lace on the glass. Overall, it’s not very interesting, it’s just a fine, easy drinking beer best served well-chilled at your outdoor party.
17-Jul-04 (12 oz bottle) Generic, boring, bland, blah beer that will never be placed into my shopping basket again. This is just a small step above the mass-produced American lagers. Mildly sweet and slightly malty, with minimal hops or bitterness, and a slight lemon zest toward the finish, it’s really more of a woody, cardboard taste though. The nose is rather vague, pretty much just the bland aroma of an American lager. Light to medium bodied on the palate, but a bit thin and watery. The color is a crystal clear pale yellow. Off-white head is smallish on the pour and fades to a sheen fairly quickly. Some sporadic lacing here and there. (4, 2, 4, 2, 8 = 2.0) HoppyGuy (97), USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear sunshine gold with a smallish white head. The aroma is almost like a meadow and some citrus. Flavor is bright, with a bit of sweetnes that is brought under control by the hops. Thin mouthfeel, with some fizz. Not a bad summer beer. I’d like to pair this brew with hotdogs grilled in the backyard (mustard and onions added), plus a spinach salad and a bunch of friends. Angeloregon (1864), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 21, 2008 Thanks to my brother Mario for a bottle of this one--Poured a hazy golden-amber body with a medium-sized white head. Grassy, earthy, mildly spiced hops aroma. Fizzy, citrus and biscuit nose. Sweet and mildly bitter finish. Sessionable. durhambeer (397), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 6, 2008 Drank it from the bottle--just didn’t even feel like pouring it into a glass. This is the kind of beer made to be drunk from the bottle, you know? Pale lager taste with some hops on the back end with a lemony zip as well. Tastes a bit watery, but really easy to drink. Give me a boat, a 90 degree day, and some sunshine, and I could drink 8 of these suckers. Otherwise, meh...
