2009 Peoria International Beer Fest. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Aroma is a granny smith apple scent with a pretty pungent sourness. Sour dominates the flavor and notes of apples and some mild grainy notes work their way in there as well. Beer has a light acid bite at the very end and is a very pleasant beer overall.

Bottle. Pours a golden colour with a medium white head. Aroma is sour and fruity with some sweetness. I also sense the 20 month oak barrel maturing, reminds me of redvine Soft sweet/sour and fruity dry flavour. Sour dry finish. Not my kind’a beer.

Sampled at the Peoria Int’l Beer Festival. (I was unaware this was a sour ale until I took my first whiff, so this was the surprise of the day!) Yellow in color, clear, with a moderate white head. Heavy dough & cheese nose - bardyardy with a capital B. Tart flavor, lots of sour apple and citrus (lemon and grapefruit). Refreshingly carbonated. Awesome.

Peoria Beerfest 2009. Sample pour. Yellow lemonade in color- very tart, carbonated, biting. I’m sure this is very well-done for the style, but the style is not my favorite. Much too lemony and tart for my taste.

Transparent gold, small fizzy white head. Nose is sour with some grain, lactic notes, apple, and wood. Flavor is more tart and fruity with some citrus, grape, and apple. There is also some minor lactic quality and further grain. With warmth the grainy notes edge off in favor of some some nice berry notes and sweeter elements. Thin body but fantastic carbonation, perfectly prickly without getting fizzy. Long, tart finish of grainy grape. Very spritzy and refreshing. From a drinker’s perspective, this is more a berliner weisse than anything else, but it occasionally flirts with other styles, mainly through the nuanced flavor. Very interesting stuff.

Tasty and readily available...Crystal clear 10 karat pour produced a large bubbly white head. Extremely acidic and tart with blue cheese in the nostrils and oak on the tongue. Lemon zest, grapefruit, and freshly cut grass...medium mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

[BB 10.18.07 I assume thats bottling not best by] Rating 990.. officially kicking off my countdown to beer godliness. Pours a clear glowing golden slight amber with a a large frothy off-white foam, gorgeous 4.5. Strong wild yeast funky acidic aroma, lactic and brett notes, slight cheese and woodiness. The aroma and appearance are misleading as this is quite sweet and tangy like Flemmish Red. Sweet candy-like woody slightly cheesy first taste, with tangy lactic acid quickly following. Just a touch medicinal in the finish. Fruity, a mix of lemons, cherries and apples, maybe some prickly-pear. Leaves a nice candy tart sweetness on the lips and gums. Flavor 7.5. Very drinkable for a sour, has enough sweetness as to not be offensive. Nice long lasting woodiness in the aftertaste. Medium bodied, softer crisp fine carbonation, clean and not sticky.
