| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | Jun 11, 2009 Dark reddish brown body with a long lasting beige head. Loads of thick sticky lacing is coating my glass. Aroma is slightly disappointing it is mild, slightly sour and metallic. However the flavor is rich and smooth, very chocolaty, sweet, and creamy. I have to agree with the people here and say a brown sugar flavor is very strong. Mouth feel is a touch thin form me. Very good beer, high quality, and easy drinking. agl108 (511), Manayunk, Pennsylvania, USA

Sweet brown candi sugar and caramel flavor. Some faint dark fruits, plums, raisins. Beerlando (2353), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 1, 2009 From the bottle pours a hazy, brownish-mauve body with a small ring and skinny blanket of khaki colored foam. Soapy lines of lacing try to dry to the glass, but ultimately break apart and slowly drip back towards the body below. The nose is sweet and malty, with notes of raisin, fig, darkly toasted toffee, and smoky molasses working together nicely. There is a trace of dark cocoa in there, along with hints of earthy spice. Flavors match the aroma quite well, dark and fruity, with caramelized figs and dates, stewed raisins, cocoa, and hints of cinnamon. Licorice lurks deep within amidst the molasses and traces of maple. A very faint must adds a bit of wild character. Substantially bodied, sweet, and actively carbonated, the brew finishes with a moderately sticky mouthfeel. Sweet Belgians typically aren’t my thing, but this one is quite agreeable. MoritzF (5080), Bochum, Germany
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 21, 2009 (33cl bottle) Hazy, reddish brown colour with a thick beige foamy head. Sweet and roasted, slightly earthy malty aroma with caramel (Bavarian Blockmalz-like) and hints of licorice. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Solid roasted malty base with shy hints of berries, raisins, combined with caramel, licorice and crusty flavours. Sweet and roasty bitter, also earthy and subtle fruity finish (21.V.09). Nice malty, thick head
Hint of chocolate, caramel, toffee nuttiness.
Not too hoppy, just malty enough to offset the hops.
Had this one before Aventinus and the Aventinus Eisbock. Was my favorite until then. PetrUS, AventinUS....apparently I like this style... RHeastings (433), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | May 11, 2009 Enjoyed via tulip glass from an 11.2oz bottle. Pours a deep brown color with perhaps a one finger-width head. Nose of caramel, Munich-type malt, and perhaps some brown sugar. Unfortunately, these aromatic notes come across forcefully on the palate. The label explains the flavor as being, "subtle and slightly caramelized." However, there was nothing even remotely subtle about it. I thought I was drinking unfermented wort, rather than a fine example of a Belgian dubbel. These flavors were so strong that it made it very difficult for me to finish this one; a feat from a drinker who loves dubbels and will drink anything happily. Overall, very disappointing. eManu (213), Brussels, Belgium
