Nice malty, thick head
Hint of chocolate, caramel, toffee nuttiness.
Not too hoppy, just malty enough to offset the hops.
Had this one before Aventinus and the Aventinus Eisbock. Was my favorite until then. PetrUS, AventinUS....apparently I like this style... MrRoss (617), Delta, British Columbia, Canada

Best before date of 14 July 2007. This one poured a really BIG foamy tan head and the colour was a cloudy dark copper. This had the most incredible lacing I’ve ever seen; it was simply massive! The aroma was of both fruits and spices. Taste - merely terrific, and a not so shabby aftertaste either, with some caramel popping up. nearbeer (1868), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 20, 2008 33 cl. Nearly opaque mahogany with ruby highlights and a two-finger lasting head. Aroma is earth-spiced raisin-date bread, molasses, and caramel icing. Flavor is similar to the aroma, with a finish of slight sour cherry, cumin, and brown sugar. Medium body is smooth, acidic-tingly, and finishes dryish. Excellent dessert beer. Erdinger2003 (127), Ames, Iowa, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 23, 2007 Pours out nicely with a big head that falls into a good strong lacing. Smells different, and therefore very good, from what I’ve reviewed lately. I always enjoy a new taste. It’s full flavored and a little spicy with something I can’t put my finger on. Mouthfeel is very good and the aftertaste is slightly sour in a good way. I would definetly have more of these. GreatLibations (1447), Last Supper, Arizona, USA

Aromas of rasins, molases, and slighly maltedt biscuts. Full nectar, residuals effers are soft and ample. Flavors are strong and fruity with dried stone fruit, brownsugar, molases, and sourdough. Finish is long and fruity w/ slight souring then even slighter bitter. Well ballanced. Overall: a decent brew w/ strong flavors. This is the best brew I’ve ever had with Mexican food. Try it! | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 14, 2005 I cannot believe that I am the second rater of this, and I am very happy that I have 5 more Petrus brews waiting for me to sample. This one was part of a great 6 bottle sampler from the Beer Yard. The pour was a gorgeous deep ruby with a 4-finger tan head. The aroma was caramel malty, with tons of fruit, including cabernet, grapes, apple, and some rauchy, oaky bourbon notes. The taste was extremely fruity, backed by a solid sweet malt presence. I noted raspberry, strawberry, huge blackberry, plus grapes and even blue slushy flavors. The palate was dense and complex. This one surprised me, and I can’t wait to try the other beers from this brewer. DaSilky1 (2019), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 15, 2008 Chestnut/red body, pristine tan pillowy head. Nose of marzipan, caramel, cherries, and brandy and/or rum. Really, the nose was quite a thick, sensual sweetheart. Intro gives us prickly carbination and flavors of cherry twizler, dried fruit, nuts, and bittersweet chocolate. Overall, it has a very candy-like presence and reminds me a hell of a lot like Ommegang. The malts are thick & luscious and this beer probably makes you cum when coupled with a nice cigar. My only problem is that it becomes cloyingly sweet and mundane if left to warm up too much, so i recommend this to be maintained at colder temps...probably above 50 degrees. beerguy101 (3960), Newark, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 14, 2005 This abbey dubbel pours a deep ruby color from a 300ml (11.20z) bottle. Large sized white foamy head, with strong lacing. Aroma is sweet malts with lots of dark fruit and brown sugar. A medium bodied dubbel. Malts are very sweet. Lots of dark fruit and brown sugar flavors abound in this beer, apricots, raspberry, banana and blackberry. Touch of bourbon. Very smooth and thick tasting beer, not chewy but real close. It is very sweet and if you can get past that it’s a fairly tasty beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is very sweet and fruity.
