Cola colored with a fleeting tan head. Nice aroma is mostly oak and earthy cellar. Light/medium body. Light pit fruit flavor here with some caramel sweetness. Has a mildly sour wet wood taste to finish. Not too bad by itself , but it was weak compared to some of the other sours we quaffed the first week of march’07...357

330ml botle. Pours a dark, opaque brown. Lots of carbonation, small frothy head that dissipates quickly. Smells very malty, with a mix of fruit, mostly banana. Palette is smooth, but quite tangy. Flavour is complex and quite nice. Can definitely taste the oak aging.

33cl bottle. Pours clear and deep, reddish brown with intense copper highlights and a medium-sized, light tan head that is very short-lived. The aroma is fruity, woody, and a little sour - like currants and treacle. The flavor starts acidic with a touch of sweetness. There is also some toasty maltiness and a touch of breadiness, after the initial, subtle sourness. The middle of the tongue finds an interesting mix of grainy, toasty, semi-sweet malts with sour fruit (acetic, not citrus). The middle and finish have a strong, earthy, musty note. The mouthfeel is medium in body and quite effervescent. The vigorous carbonation is almost too much on the tip of the tongue, but it complements the flavors throughout to make the beer taste more refreshing. Overall, very nice - simple and drinkable, yet interesting from the mix of toasty and sour flavors.

First rating, but long time beer drinker. Inspired by a Bios to try more Sour Ales. This one though is different than the Sour Red Ales, like the bottle says, Old Brown Ale Aged in Oak Casks for 2 Years. That about sums it up. Pours a dark brown color with a light, quickly disappearing whitish-tan head. The nose is almost entirely oak wood. So is the front end of each sip. A slight bit of tartness as well as that classic brown ale taste follow. Not overly complex, but a very good beer.

11.2 oz bottle-pours a foamy tan head and brown/copper color. Aroma is rooty/earthy/spice, vinuous, vinegar. Taste is tart fruit, vinegar, rooty/earthy/spice, yeast. Good effervescence then somewhat thin finish mid-palate.

Bottle: Dark brown colored pour with medium sized head. Sweet, fruity, malty aroma with a sweet cherry like finish.

Bottle, thanks MDS. Deep ruby brown, light tan head. Nose is honey & rich malt, cherry syrup. Flavor is sweet malt, light tartness, some cherry, very rich malt. Tartish finish.

Poured into a wine glass in a pinch, forms a nice 1 finger head of light tan foam. Body is clear and cola colored. Smells of that root beer flavored gummy candy with a hint of musty yeast, raspberry, overly sugary. This beer is way too sweet. It reminds me of watery cherry cola with berry notes and no trace of sourness or oak. Boring. Too much carbonation makes this beer hard to drink until the head settles down, which doesn’t take too long because the head is fizzy. Inoffensive beer but it just tastes saccharine to me. I was expecting a nice tart refreshing brew but I got a fountain drink.
